This is a very functional jacket for either active or casual wear. I was able recently to test it through heavy rain and subsequent snow up in Yosemite. It performed flawlessly. I paired it with a mid layer windproof fleece jacket from STP for a perfect balance of warmth and dryness. The "pit zips" are a bit undersized and strangely placed but not at all a dealbreaker. I primarily used the jacket for snowshoeing and hiking with no real inconvenience. I was able to quickly and easily ventilate when needed. Some of the better features include waterproof DEEP pockets, longer hemline in the back, excellent stormflap with a large sized zipper, nicely sized hood (not huge but large enough for a helmet) adjustment options throughout jacket and nice color selection. It is also stylish enough to wear with a pair of jeans around town, either with or without a mid layer...ie doesn't look bulky with a mid layer or huge without one. Bottom line it's highly functional in a variety of weather conditions. Enjoy!

Great Shell at an awesome price. Im very happy with this. The fit is great, can use it alone to keep dry and theres room to layer a fleece underneath for colder conditions.

I received this jacket as a gift because I wanted a waterproof, windproof shell that I could put layers under for hiking Mt. Kilimanjaro in February. It's perfect!

For my girlfriend. She is 5'9" and 135lbs, the large fits her well with a little room for some layering. Could use an inch or two more in length though for the taller women out there like her. A very nice piece of gear though. Lowe Alpine with gore-tex is serious gear.

the jacket is great. it fits true to size (maybe a little bit small). i'm an athletic 5'9" woman and the large is perfect for me. i can fit a fleece under it or a hoodie but nothing too bulky. it is fine for layering. be aware that the hood is really big. you can fit a helmet under it because it is designed for rock climbing. this is fine for me because i'm going to use it when riding my bike to & from work especially when it rains. you can make the hood a bit smaller with the elastic ties that run through it but it's still really big. i'm also going to use it while hiking and traveling (i'm not a climber). there's a pocket right near the left hand on the sleeve that's perfect for traveling because you can store all your money, etc right there and then not have to fumble for it.

I bought this because I thought it was a warm winter coat. When I received it, I realized it was really for chilly rainy days. It was very well constructed and I'm sure it would do the job in keeping me dry and protected from the wind. However, since warmth in snowy weather was my first priority, I had to return it.

Bought this for my domestic partner after she indicated she was interested in fishing with me regardless of the weather. As anyone who has ever fished knows, good rain gear is crucial. However, she now thinks this coat is much too stylish to be relegated to a life of backwoods fishing and is wearing it over her suburban clothing. Oh well.

Got this for my wife as she's never had a nice gore-tex jacket. Couldn't believe we got this $600 jacket for [$] And, it's amazing how far these straight 3-ply shells have come in 15 years. It's relatively soft and quiet, but it's amazingly thin and yet impressively tough. Wife loves it and even wears it around the house and around town. Looking forward to putting it to the test outdoors. So light and packable you can use it year round up north. Yes, it has a high front for face protection like any extreme conditions shell would. That's just one more plus when you need it for any reason.
