These are a really nice pair of puffy pants at the price. They fit well, they move well, and for the degree of insulation they provide they are reasonably light & they pack down acceptably small. The lit says they come with a stuff sack, but they don't. Packing them into one of their own pockets ... Read More

    Great winter belay pants.

I bought these pants to keep warm during rest breaks or around camp when snowshoeing or winter mountaineering. The full side zips and generous sizing let me put them on while still wearing boots and crampons. They are very compressible and pack easily in my day pack. With these pants I can dress for active climbing/snowshoeing but be comfortable during rest breaks and survive an unexpected night out. I spent the night at 14,500' elevation last spring and my legs were warm walking around and sleeping in a 15F rated sleeping bag even with temperatures around zero. They were also very nice watching a fireworks show during a blizzard at a ski resort.

The fabric is good for these uses, but not durable enough to be used as outerwear for alpine skiing or climbing. It is also very slick so they would contribute to a very fast slide if you fell on a steep snow slope. Sizing seems designed to go over other pants- size down if they are just going over a thin layer.

Fantastically warm and light and fully featured (ankle guards, full zips, pockets, suspender-compatible), but one major gripe is that insulation is "leaking" through to the inside of the pant. fibers seem to be poking through and ball/pilling up, pulling them out of the insulating layer and onto the interior fabric. have not yet contacted sierra or LA regarding this, but could be a major issue. used sporadically through 1 weekend so far.

Puffy pants are not easy to get by... Grab those if you need super warm pants that can be tossed in a day pack easily. These pants are easy to put on, even with crampons on your feet.
