Lowe Alpine North Dome Jacket - Windstopper® (For Men)

Combined with light hiking pants (mountain hardwear pinnacle, light softshell (mammut nirvana) (only used below -5C and for long descents, easily stored in small backpack) and thermo underwear (craft) this is absolutely the best (lightest, breathable, wind stopping, warm enough, never sweating), I have ever used for multiple days ski mountaineering.

This is a wonderful jacket (material is great; Gore wind-proof liner is first-rate) that is also lightweight. However, it is ruined by the ten cent zipper used - it took me 5 minutes to finally engage the zipper and zip it up. I would avoid this jacket uinless you want an exercise in frustration...go for a Marmot or Mountain Hardwear...with a a larger (YKK) zipper, this jacket would shine. With the tiny tooth zip on this Lowe - avoid.

I booked a last minute Arctic expedition and needed something fast. I am a female but wanted lightweight and windproof. This jacket seemed to have all the qualities I needed, so I went with this mens coat. Of course I had to roll the sleeves but it was perfect. I was leery about the lightweight fabric and was suprised how it held up. I was amazed at the windproof quality. We were out in the Arctic and the wind gusts were practically blowing us overboard, with windchill of below 20 F. We were at Latitude 80 30'N. The jacket held up well and went through snow and rain. The rain rolled right off and was easy to clean. I highly recommend this jacket to anyone.

Nice looking and waterproof. This could be warmer.
