Lowie Alpine lives up to its great name again. These pants are brilliant. The cut is fantastic, a nice surprise for soft shell pants, very flattering! They are comfortable too, a nice soft material. They are very lightweight, but immediately feel warm. True to the description they will be perfect for everything from backing, hiking and climbing.

Most pants fit me terribly. I'm 5'9" and 135 lbs. I have a slim waist and full hips/thighs, so when the hip/thigh area fits, my waist usually looks like its swimming in a paper bag. Soooo unflattering! These pants are really nice fitting, though! The design is slim at the waist where I need it, and roomy--but not too roomy- in the hip. There is plenty of room for a base layer underneath. The slanted front pockets don't add bulk or gap like many do. With no rear pockets, the pant is very flattering and slimming. The waistband is also neatly adjustable by means of an integrated belt with a slim plastic front clip .The material is great-- strong, minimally noisy and has a matte finish. And it's got a little stretch, too! All around great product and very well constructed. Only con is the side thigh pocket. It feels kinda stiff. Oh, and I ordered a size too large (somehow picked L instead of M, so it was looser overall than I ultimately wanted) so I'm returning it. Unfortunately, there is no size M here to exchange it for. I sure wish there were, because this is such a great pant. I was hoping to use it for hiking and cross country skiing.

The nice thing about these pants is how long they are. I usually have trouble finding pants that are long enough and these really are.
The fabric is nice also. It does not look like it would pill or snag easily. They are very stretchy. The cut does not fit my curvy figure, but they are so stretchy that I have no problem moving in them.
What I find awkward is the Lowe logo at the knee and the pocket at the knee. This makes sense if you use these under a long jacket. Then you can get to the pocket. This is not something that I am comfortable with, though.
