I am very happy with this pack. I used it on a recent backpacking trip for the first time. We even got rained on and all was dry inside. It was very comfortable. I think the only thing I can say I would change at this point is I wish it had a few more outside pockets. Other than that its a deal especially for those wanting good gear but needing to watch their $$$$

I have only found one major downfall with this pack - it's heavy as a tank as far as backpacks go. A minor flaw to add is no hook for a hydration bladder. That's why it didn't make 5 stars. However... the other features more than make up for it. First, if you have any comfort issues, you're either distributing weight improperly, or you're pack isn't adjusted right. When adjusted and packed correctly, the pack is so solid it feels like an extension of your body. This is very nice when you are in highly rugged terrain, and have to deal with obstacles on a trip. Also, being 6'5", packs that will fit me are hard to find, especially at a price like I paid for this. Having done lots of backpacking on rough rocky surfaces, I came to appreciate the ruggedness of the materials used. My bag has yet to show any wear and tear even after being repeatedly tossed onto the ground. The rain fly has come in handy in several occasions as well, and not just for covering up my pack.

I purchased this pack back in December of 2009. This pack has accompanied me on 8 weekend hikes and 2 weeklong hikes. My pack has yet to show any wear (I am ritualistic in the care of my gear). All zippers continue to work as advertised and the fabric shows no signs of rips, tears, hole, etc. The pack is a little on the heavy side, but given that lighter packs are 3 pounds lighter I can take the trade off. The compression straps allow a zipper busting heavy load or minimal light load to be compress well without the pack moving all over the place during your excursions. I have sat in stores contemplating buying a smaller pack for smaller loads, but I cannot find a reason to purchase another pack when this pack serves every need I have. You won't be dissatisfied with this pack.

I bought this for a through hike on the John Muir this past summer. What started out fine--large capacity diverse pockets--turned into a painful experience after only a few days. The right shoulder strap never got comfortable and after three weeks I had a deep purple bruise that lasted a few more weeks. I felt imbalanced when the pack was full. The pack sat too close to my back with little comfort. My back was always sweaty at the end of a day's hike. Although it was easy getting to all my gear, the side pockets near the hip belt weren't large enough for my water bottles. Somehow I got two inch-long holes in the fabric as well, but the zippers lasted despite at times getting pulled to their maximum capacity.

I bought this for a 2 week european trip. Carried all my gear, comfortable, easy to get around with. Only thing that would make this better is if the top section detached for a day pack.

This is an excellent pack. I have used it for three extended backpacking trips in the wilds of Pennsylvania. Each loadout (less water) has been around 25-27 pounds, and this pack has performed perfectly. I've also worn it on a few dayhikes in order to become comfortable with the suspension and weight. It is well ventilated, if adjusted properly, and the straps and hipbelt are sufficiently well-padded. It is somewhat difficult to adjust the torso length to the perfect length, but once the adjustment has been made, the pack is very comfortable. I have mine at around 18.5 inches, though my measurement is just under 18 inches. The hipbelt is a bit broad for my taste, and I have noticed that if it begins to sag from my hips, the belt will pinch my waist. For the money, the features list on this pack is outstanding. It includes its own rain cover, has a bladder sleeve that stores my empty Nalgene Cantene comfortably, offers front and top access to the main compartment, has two pockets in the lid (one on the outside, one within), has two bellows pockets on the sides of the main compartment, and a sleeping bag compartment that can be unzipped to extend the main compartment. Another plus is that the pack is extendable to 80 liters, which allows the pack to work well as both a multi-day and weeklong pack. The zippers are strong and haven't snagged; the lash points on the lid and front are handy. I do wish that it had a pocket on the hipbelt for a map or trail snacks (it does NOT, despite the mention of it in the description), and it would be convenient NOT to have to remove the pack to access a bottle in the mesh pockets. The pack is slightly on the heavy side, although I've tried on many much heavier packs. Overall, I would highly recommend this as a multiday pack. I'm certain that there are better options out there, but in all fairness, there are few near this price point that would compare.

This is a great pack. My first, but I used it for a month long trip and used it quite a bit. Held up great, worked great. My only minor complaint is that its hard to reach, if not impossible to reach the water bottle pockets while you have the pack on. But really that's not a huge problem, this pack does make up for it at this price. Its great and very durrable
