These pants are really cool--great fabric and style, flattering, sturdy, comfortable--but they do run very small. I think the sizing is off both in actual fit as well as the numbers (a European size 36 is usually the equivalent of a US size 6 not 8 as it says here; a 38 is an 8, etc). I normally wear a size US 4; I got a size 36 knowing--from previous reviews and from other Lowe Alpine pants I purchased at STP--that these ran small, and the 36 fits me like my normal size 4 does, and with no room to spare. I had hoped to be able to wear these for cooler weather bike commutes with a padded bike short underneath, but they are very fitted and the fabric has NO stretch to it; it was a snug fit with the bike shorts underneath so I probably won't do that after all. In general, though, I do really like the fit, look and feel of these pants so I do recommend them if you can figure out which size would fit you best. On me, the size 36 R fit like a 4 everywhere except the length, which was a little too long (I'm 5'4'')but its easy to tuck the bottom of the pants under a couple of inches without it looking weird and it stays tucked, so no need to hem. Cuffed, they are perfect.

These pants would have been amazing had the size fit. I normally between a 6-7. I ordered an 8, and couldn't even get my leg into them, they were way too small. If I was to order them again, I would have to buy a size 12!! (I'm not buying a size 12, talk about depressing).

These are great for a day outdoors. The pants are light-weight and cool, so I think that they would be perfect to wear on hikes. The construction is high quality. I wore today for the first time, so I can't comment on how they wash, but I don't forsee any problems with laundering. The waist is somewhat large, but there are extra buttons to adjust so they fit okay by tightening with those buttons.
When I lived in Germany, I was told that with the European sizing you just drop the first number to get the U.S. size, e.g., 38 is basically a size 8. Using that system as a guide, I think that the pants run slightly small. I ordered a size 36 first (U.S. 6), but they were somewhat snug. I exchanged for size 38, and I liked the fit better.

I needed some lighter-weight, sun-blocking pants to wear for heavy yard work. These certainly fit the bill. Although they are said to fit at the waist, I find them to be about an inch too low. They are also very long (but the material is so light-weight that it is easy to sew them up), but the rise isn't long. I usually wear a 10 long, relaxed in jeans. The 42 long in these fit me best. They will serve me well for hiking and working outside. I bought several pairs.
