We were very happy with this backpack on our 10 day tour of another country. You can stuff in a lot, and the multitude of pockets help keep stuff organized. The zippers are good quality and the buckles add extra reinforcement. It opens wide so you have good access to everything inside without unpacking everything. It's nice that the daypack attaches, but when things are heavily packed, the daypack does tend to stick out a bit far.

I'm a fan of this brand in general. This backpack is heavy, no doubt about it, but the material is THICK and the thing is sturdy. Zippers are high quality. If you're looking for something to take on an adventure, there is nothing better than this to go from Plane to Train to Trail. Lots of pockets (almost too many!) for papers, gear, waterproof storage.

This is a great bag for those who don't have as much, or choose not to, carry as much as me when backpacking. I am confident in the quality and have now ordered the larger 70 + 17 which I know I will be satisfied with. I incorrectly assumed that the 60L would be larger than it was. The only feature that I am not entirely happy with is that the rain/protector cover is stored inside the bag when not in use which takes up valuable room (about the size of one and a half pairs of hiking socks) - particularly in the space available in the 60L bag.

There are a lot of straps/snaps to figure out, that may put some off at first, but well worth the few minutes to figure out. This is great for extended overseas travel/backpacking.
    • Cons: See product comments
    • Pros: Detachable day pack, Good frameback support, Good Padding, Good pockets design, Good straps design, Multiple carrying options, Stow-away rain cover

  • Question “Is this backpack set up to hold a water bladder/hydration system? Is there a way to feed the hose out?”
Asked on 2/19/2013 12:00:00 AM by Dianne from Unknown
    • Answer This pack is not hydration compatible.

  • Question “One of reviewers said this pack was too small, but the specs say it's 4000 cu in - twice (or more) as big as most of the women's packs on this site. Plus the daypack which is another 1000 cu in. So now I'm curious if anyone else found this pack "small", or if the capacity given is erroneous. 4000 is bigger than some men's packs. I'm strong, but 59 and not quite 5'3" - pretty sure I don't want a bigger bag than this, but wanted to see how others felt.”
Asked on 1/26/2013 12:00:00 AM by Uncategorizable from Colorado
    • Answer With backpacks there is two size considerations. One is the pack capacity which is dictated by the packers use and how many day of gear it will be used for. The other factor is the Torso lengths the backpack will fit. this is based on how long the user torso is. This is a link to our Backpack Buying Guide which will give you more insight on how big of a pack you need. http://www.sierratradingpost.com/lp2/backpack-guide/

  • Question “Does this pack have a cover for the straps? On an airplane, straps need to be covered up usually. Many packs have a material tucked in, usually the bottom, that can easily come out and be zipped up around the straps to hide them. Does this have that feature?”
Asked on 7/29/2012 12:00:00 AM by Danielle from United States
    • Answer The shoulder straps and waistbelt store behind zippered panel for baggage handling. Thanks for asking!

  • Question “Is this pack front-panel load or top load?”

    • Answer And it is a panel loader.
