Split compartmentalizati... Read More
Verified Buyer Reviewed by Traveling Matt from St Louis, Missouri on Saturday, May 30, 2015I really like this backpack and used it for a year or so as my photo/life-in-general bag, but I've since moved on from it due to a few niggles. There's a lot of good, but a few bad things that eventually led me to look elsewhere for a jack-of-all-trades photo bag.
Split compartmentalization of this bag for camera gear on bottom, personal effects on top is very nice for when you're not JUST shooting but want to bring your camera along.
Side compartment is big enough to fit a midsize DSLR with a 70-200mm f2.8 attached, plus another lens.
Tripod straps on the bag work really well.
Build of the bag is good. Straps are relatively thin but appropriate for the weight you can fit in the bag. Sternum strap was a good move, too.
It's possible to fit a tablet or even an 11" Macbook Air in the front "map" pocket of the bag (just under the weather flap). It's not super secure when the weather flap isn't buckled, but it's still POSSIBLE to carry a computing device.
As many people have complained, the zipper on the main compartment of this bag is "fiddly". Sometimes it takes two hands to get in and out of the bag due to the zipper's U-shape. This can be fairly annoying and is the primary drawback of using this bag over time. It will continue to annoy you.
Foam dividers aren't ideal for the way most people will want to set this bag up, but it's possible to work around this. Consider using foam dividers from your other bags (or buying other inserts) to customize appropriately. Problem solved.
The space in the main compartment really doesn't have a lot of organization - there's one small zipper pocket, but otherwise it's raw space. This can be good, but can be a drawback if you're digging in the bag for something specific.
There's no water bottle sleeve on this bag. There needs to be one. Why isn't there one?
I can't say DON'T pick this bag up, because it's pretty good - but it's still just not quite right for its intended use. Maybe try before you buy.
