Most Helpful 5-Star Review
Reviewed by 2pdl from South Royalton, Veremont on Monday, February 24, 2014I am a general classical skier -- I love taking long tours in the woods. I do not skate or race, so my review is based on the general use. My old boots were getting a bit sad, so I started looking a while back. When I read the review of these, I was intrigued and got them. I have been delighted with them. Most ski boots have been uncomfortable across my toes and lower foot when I pulled the laces tight enough to provide the support necessary for skiing. The Madshus Boots, however, have a larger toe box, the lacing system described above, and an external brace. Together, they meant the boot could be wonderfully supportive without being overly restrictive. After hours of skiing that meant a lot. The lace cover is also convenient and easy to use while being quite functional. I have been delighted with my purchase
Reviewed by JC from Oregon on Thursday, February 6, 2014Have only taken these out a few times since the purchase, but they seem to be quite supportive and warm for basic days out on the trails.
Reviewed by flatlander from Northern Illinois on Tuesday, January 28, 2014I am using these for classic (stride) technique and find them to be very good for me. Sole is flexible for classic (probably too flexible to use as a skate-only boot), and firm ankle support (separate from plastic cuff) that I was initially concerned could be uncomfortable but have found them to be OK. I recently bought and returned new Fischer combi boots from a local ski shop. For me, the Fishcher combi boot soles were too stiff for classic use, and the laces hard to snug up. The Madshus worked better for me: flexible sole, comfortable boot, and excellent, effective lacing system that really allows me to snug the boot to my foot.
I have used them twice with no problems. I had perhaps the best ski outing of my life this past weekend (January 2014): efficient striding and confidence on downhills (I attribute to no slop in the boot/secure fit with good ankle support). I have a 9.5 foot and purchased a 44 boot.
I have noticed some slight staining of the silver/white fabric from melted snow and salt. Haven't tried to clean because it is hardly noticeable so far. Long term durability unknown but I am very happy with this boot. I would recommend it: excellent boot, excellent price.
Reviewed by Fisherman from DK from NJ on Thursday, January 16, 2014Mian reason for not 5 stars is that I only have had them for a couple of weeks, so not sure how they will hold up to my use over time. Otherwise very happy. Have used them from 4F to 40F outside temps, was not cold at 4F but will not have a thick sock in next time its 40F outside. So nice and warm. Quality seems good. The plastic brace, for lack of a better word, looks a bit fragile but I will see how it holds up. Decent sideward stability, probably not your best boot for skating but they have worked very well for me on regular touring. Warmly recommended.
Reviewed by SMB from Illinois on Friday, December 20, 2013Worked great for classic skiing - boot is flexible and very comfortable. Beginners could use it for skate skiing but I would not buy these for skate skiing only. Quality seems good and for the price paid, they were a bargain (thank you Deal Flyers).
