They are between a lightweight and midweight ski pant, fine by themselves above 20F/-7C, below that you'll want to add a layer (a sheer, lightweight wicking layer would be adequate down to around 0F, with incrementally heavier layers below that). She is 5'10", 165 lbs with a long torso and typically wears dress size 12-14, I got her size 44 in these pants and they are nearly perfect, maybe the inseam is just slightly on the long side (by 1/2 - 1"). They have room for another layer without being baggy, and they are very flattering to her curves. An expedition weight base layer yields a very snug fit. She looks great in them, very stylish.
