I needed something for winter active wear here in MT, for hiking, running, snowshoeing, skiing etc. I have hard shells, fleece, down etc, but wanted something lightwt that keeps the core warm yet is breathable. This is perfect. The softshell sleeves and shoulders allow flexibility, and they breathe. The insulated core (chest/back) keep me warm enough. The pit zips sold me...they are a must in high activity use. Quality is impeccable, though some may scoff at the left hand zipper; I got used to it quickly. The two way zipper is great...being able to zip ip from bottom to access gear, or to cool. I have worn this in 10f weather with a capilene base layer and midweight fleece, and was toasty. (I wear it as a mid layer under my down sweater if below zero). When I stop to rest, I'll throw my down sweater over it. Up to the mid 40s temp, I can wear a just light fleece or zip crewneck, and not be too hot. Nearly windproof, sheds light rain, the hood is great in the wind. LOVE IT!

I have a lot of Mammut clothing and have been impressed with all of it. This jacket is no exception. I love the blend of materials. The sleeves and shoulders appear to be a bit more durable than the body of the jacket. The sleeves feel a bit too long and could use some type of velcro closure. Other than that this has been my jacket of choice when temps drop below freezing..

I've been using this around town for a couple weeks and have been pleased with its light weight and warmth of the pertex. The hood has great face coverage with a nice fleece patch over the zipper. Sizing is pretty good, I was looking for a little longer length than the Mtn hardwear dragon and Arcteryx gamma hoody, and the xxl is a bit longer than the dragon probably about the same as the mx hoody but I like the cut of this jacket the best. I'm 6'4" 210 and the xxl fits well, nice long sleeves and chest area. Gripes so far are minimal, the sleeves are definetely tighter fitting but stretchy enough so it's ok and could be a touch longer and would benefit from Velcro closures on the cuffs.

This jacket is the perfect blend of protection and warmth. Many jackets try to accomplish multiple jobs but fail at all of them. This one excels in all areas. Highly recommended for everything except keeping dry in a monsoon!! It is relatively durable, but may work better as an inner insulating layer if all you do is climb on rocks. Hood has plenty of room to fit my helmet in and has a well-designed system to keep it out of your eyes.

Enough insulation up to the chest to keep you warm on colder days while keeping active, softshell upper for excellent range of motion for any outdoor activites (not waterproof though). In terms of size, I am 5'11" and a large was a great fit because I could fit a couple of base layers OR a midweight fleece underneath. Great jacket.

This is the jacket I've been looking for for a long time. The softshell upper beads water quickly and is flexible and comfortable, almost like wearing a sweatshirt rather than a jacket. The insulated torso is warm without bulk. So far it seems very breathable, but the pit zips are a key feature as no "shell" fabric I've ever used breathes enough for extended exertion. Great interior pockets for hat, gloves, skins, etc. I haven't used this skiing yet (since it's only October) but I suspect this will be my go-to jacket for area and backcountry use. My favorite feature is the fabulous helmet compatible hood that zips up covering most of your face. The neck and face portion are cut big enough so that it doesn't feel like work to turn your head with the hood zipped fully--something that is an issue on almost every other shell I own. I love the light fleece lining on the upper body and hood. This jacket won't keep you warm in the winter just standing around, but if you are moving in cold temps (even really cold temps) this will be perfect. One note on sizing, I read some other reviews of Mammut gear in general being sized very slim or "Euro." I can't comment on other Mammut pieces, but the stratus hybrid is cut perfectly for my 6' 200lb frame. I wear a Large 99% of the time, and the Large stratus is just right for some light layering without being tight or overly baggy. I would recommend ordering the size you usually wear, and not sizing up unless you like the baggy look. My only wish is that the back length was one or two inches longer. This isn't a size issue, but just how the jacket is cut with a short waist and long sleeves. Even at full retail, this verstile jacket is a bargain. Snagging one on STP is even better.

Awesome coat. Really cool mix of a soft shell and insulated vest. Mammut stuff is great.

It was 85 degrees outside the day this jacket arrived, so not able to wear it yet, but am sure it will not find its way to the back of the closet. Reviews on this site and others noted that the jacket ran small, and am glad I took their advise. Usually wear a large in most coats/jackets, but went with the XL.
