I'm a rock climber who's outside between 100 and 200 days a year -all of the US, Europe, and even Middle East. For years, I've ruined down jacket after down jacket -because I'm always carrying packs, getting caught in the rain, getting dirty, and degrading the down. However this jacket was built for... Was looking for a piece to replace a Arcteryx atom shell that was too large. I though from the adds and the material description it would be similar. This jacket is quite stiff ,bulky and heavy, and it even smelt strongly of body odour when it arrived.I was hoping for a layering shell but this is too thick for that so it will be used as a stand alone jacket.Overall the fit is large, and the sleeves very wide and hard to fit under other layers such as a gamut down coat.Wind resistance is average.
May keep it, or sell it at the local consignment store as shipping it back to the US would be too expensive.

This is a well made, well designed jacket. I had planned to use this for running in the Chicago winters. It is a little bulky for that purpose, especially in the sleeves.

Jacket is light weight, well made, and will work well for snowshoeing, backcountry skiing, and all around snow sports.

Greta jacket. Extremely light and packable. Wind resistant. Good for very wide range of temperatures- definite favourite!

Love the jacket. Great outerlayer for uphill ascents, then add a gortex layer for the downhill. Great color to be seen in the backcounry. Wore under gortex on cold weather inbounds skiing. Stayed warm n dry. A loose fit, but I prefer that for movement.

    • I stayed dry in lots of rain over the last week in this jacket. Also very windy and it kept me warm. It seems to dry pretty quickly. A downpour would probably get through the poly lining and make it less quick to dry, but I was impressed with how dry I stayed despite the lack of official waterproof/windproof outer fabric...

    • It's very water resistant but I haven't worn it out in a full-on downpour to see how waterproof it is. I've had a few incredibly windy days of skiing while wearing this jacket and was blown away by how windproof it is.

About Mammut

Mammut is a Swiss-based producer of high-quality mountaineering, climbing and trekking equipment. The company’s history actually dates back to the mid-1800’s, beginning with a single rope maker named Kaspar Tanner. By the 1940’s, the brand had officially adopted the mammoth logo and name. Originally specializing in Mammut ropes, the well-known alpine gear company eventually grew its product line to include mountaineering boots, crampons, harnesses and hardware. By the 1990’s, the product selection had grown even further to include Mammut jackets, pants, sleeping bags, Mammut packs and a host of other premium-quality essentials for the outdoor enthusiast.
