5.0 out of 5 stars. Sturdy, windproof + water resistant!
Reviewed by CAB from Salt Lake City, Utah on Wednesday, April 20, 2011
I'm a rock climber who's outside between 100 and 200 days a year -all of the US, Europe, and even Middle East. For years, I've ruined down jacket after down jacket -because I'm always carrying packs, getting caught in the rain, getting dirty, and degrading the down. However this jacket was built for all of these conditions- it's synthetic, it's water-resistant, noticeably windproof. Plus, it has a durable build and it's thinner than a puffy- so it fits well underneath a pack, or can even be used for a winter run. The hood is a definite bonus!

  • 2.0 out of 5 stars. Quite a heavy jacket
Reviewed by Alberta Surfer from ALberta on Wednesday, November 27, 2013
Was looking for a piece to replace a Arcteryx atom shell that was too large. I though from the adds and the material description it would be similar. This jacket is quite stiff ,bulky and heavy, and it even smelt strongly of body odour when it arrived.I was hoping for a layering shell but this is too thick for that so it will be used as a stand alone jacket.Overall the fit is large, and the sleeves very wide and hard to fit under other layers such as a gamut down coat.Wind resistance is average.
May keep it, or sell it at the local consignment store as shipping it back to the US would be too expensive.
  • 5.0 out of 5 stars. Nicely made

This is a well made, well designed jacket. I had planned to use this for running in the Chicago winters. It is a little bulky for that purpose, especially in the sleeves.
  • 5.0 out of 5 stars. Great all mountain jacket.

Jacket is light weight, well made, and will work well for snowshoeing, backcountry skiing, and all around snow sports.

Love the jacket. Great outerlayer for uphill ascents, then add a gortex layer for the downhill. Great color to be seen in the backcounry. Wore under gortex on cold weather inbounds skiing. Stayed warm n dry. A loose fit, but I prefer that for movement.

About Mammut

Mammut is a Swiss-based producer of high-quality mountaineering, climbing and trekking equipment. The company’s history actually dates back to the mid-1800’s, beginning with a single rope maker named Kaspar Tanner. By the 1940’s, the brand had officially adopted the mammoth logo and name. Originally specializing in Mammut ropes, the well-known alpine gear company eventually grew its product line to include mountaineering boots, crampons, harnesses and hardware. By the 1990’s, the product selection had grown even further to include Mammut jackets, pants, sleeping bags, Mammut packs and a host of other premium-quality essentials for the outdoor enthusiast.
