It takes the place of a fleece for me, but slides into the arms of a parka or shell much better than fleece. Great as a coat to drive in as it is both light and waist length so there is no bulk or bunching up. The only reason I did not give this a 5 is that the zipper is a bit crotchety, sometimes not wanting to mate up and go. Definitely would buy another if this oe disappeared.
