Debating returning these. Bought for my tall daughter for next year, but while the length is fine with enough to grow, the waist is BIG. As in 4 to 5 inches (or MORE) too big around. A measuring tape puts the girls size 12 29 inches!!!!! Velcro tabs allow for maybe being able to draw them in 1 inch at best, so if you want these for a non-chubby child, you will need to make your own adjustments.

This jacket hits all the marks I was looking for: waterproof (Goretex at a superb price!); wind resistant; breathable (plus pit zips); two-way zip for adjustability; fully adjustable (and removable via zip) hood; a good collection of pockets inside & out, and a longer / parka-length. I didn't want an insulated jacket, so I could choose my own layers, and the relaxed fit allows me to do that without feeling constrained. The sleeves are a bit long for me, but I'm short so that wasn't a surprise. It does mean the thumbhole on the inner cuffs doesn't quite work for me, but that's not critical. It's a bit snug at the bottom, but that's more about my shape than the jacket's, and the two-way zip lets my undo the bottom for a bit more movement or comfort when sitting, without losing the longer coverage I wanted. We've had a dry winter, so it hasn't been tested in a full downpour, but I've been dry in the rains we have had and have confidence in the Goretex. I found the jacket sizing pretty accurate in terms of length, fit through arms, chest, waist & hem, and it worked fairly well for me, especially given that I'm petite and the jacket is a standard women's size.(I'm only 5'-0" and roundish, but the medium fit pretty well considering.) I got the purple with neon green accents - a great change from the usual black without being too florescent for work.
