Excellent shell. Extremely warm, unbelievably windproof, completely waterproof.

Sizing is larger than "casual clothing" but perfect for outdoor use. Shells should be slightly long (in chest and sleeves) so you don't get wet! Just don't expect a tight fit. I'm 6' and 170 lbs, and the Medium fits me ... Read More

I thoroughly checked this jacket out last ski season at Christy Sports in Snowbird center for a much higher price. It is very well made, with all sorts of quality features. Personally, I like that the hood is removable since I never wear one over my helmet (too restricting). I also like that there's a material flap (with Velcro) over the front zipper. ALL of my jackets are that way! The arm length is perfect for me in the large size. The elastic waist cuff fits snug and is perfect for those many powder days in Utah. The "Team Red" color is beautiful. I now have jackets that are red, black, black & blue, blue and yellow. Since I ski well over 100 days a year the variety in colors is nice and required! ALL of my ski clothing is made with Gore-Tex material. I wouldn't have it any other way!! Gore-Tex WORKS!

I am a woman with big bust and broad shoulders and I find women's rain gear is usually too constricting through the shoulders, so I bought this jacket to replace an old LLBean Goretex that had finally bit the dust after 15 years. Love it, it keeps me dry, the collar is soft and comfortable on my neck, love the adjustable hood and pit zips. Looking forward to using this jacket for many years to come. I got the XL, it's stylishly oversized and hits just below the hip on me, I am 5'7" and 170lbs.

Been looking for a good ski shell for a while now and found it in this. Only two complaints: 1) The inside and outside chest pockets are way too small to be of use for anything bigger than a kerchief and sundries. 2) The hang loop is sewn to the liner only and not through the shell so that when you hang the jacket by it the liner comes up, the shell goes down and, well, it's just a lame way to do it. Otherwise, good coat, fits true to the sizing chart. I am 6', 170lb. and the medium fits great. Usually I could go with a large in a shell for layering, but in a Marmot, the med is perfect.

Suppose I could have gone five stars because this is one well made feature packed jacket. Took star off because this is a heavy warm jacket (even with pit zips open and jacket unzipped) Gore-tex didn't seem to help much either in moderate temperatures Really a late fall/winter/early spring garment in colder climates (aka Chicago). So for three seasons this is one nice jacket. Layer in a fleece jacket or goose down vest and other than zero temperatures you'll be well protected. Great value!

  • Question “Why no numeric waterproof and breathable ratings?”
Asked on 9/19/2014 8:53:13 AM by Rider in the Rain from Minnesota
    • Answer I'm not sure why no numeric ratings. But, I have a ski friend that used this jacket last season and he is extremely pleased with it's performance. During wet, heavy snow days, he claims great sealing and is perfectly dry in it especially on shoulders/back and on top of arms. Also, it's "wear" factor is great. Though a slightly lighter weight material than some other brands, "surface" wear is great, particularly at front zipper and pockets, and at the wrist cuff.

  • Question “What does it have for pockets? I like to carry my " Seattle Sombreo " ....”
Asked on 4/25/2014 7:27:43 AM by Kryder from Pacific NW
    • Answer The Marmot jacket has two side pockets that are a bit deeper/larger than normal. I do not know what a " Seattle Sombreo " is, but I carry my fluffy fleece gloves in the pockets with no problems.
Answered on 4/25/2014 7:42:56 AM by Jack from Michigan from Michigan
    • Answer Standard outside pockets plus 2 inside. although if you zip in a liner I couldn't access one of my inside pockets. I'm looking for a lighter weight liner too.
The Northface Denali works for really cold weather but once I get back into skiing I need something a bit less weight.
Answered on 4/25/2014 7:42:57 AM by SiteCR2 from Colorado
    • Answer I don't know what a 'Seattle Sombreo' is - but you should have plenty with this jacket. There are two chest pockets and two hand pockets on the outside + a zippered chest pocket on the inside for security items. Pockets and zippers seem to be well designed and function well.

    • Answer Two pockets (one on each side) lower part of jacket. Zip and velcro closures. One vertical zip left breast pocket on outside as well. One interior vertical zip pocket inside right.

    • Answer It has 1 small zippered pocket over your heart, and 2 zippered and velcroed side pockets which are lined and quite deep. There is no inside pocket.
      Hope this helps.

    • Answer Hmmm not sure what a Seattle Sombreo is, but I can say that if you have belly strap on your pack the pockets are still useable as is difficult with most similar products...I don't think you can carry hat to do Mexican Hat dance though!!!!!
Answered on 4/25/2014 11:32:32 AM by avid hiker from New Hampshire
    • Answer This is a great jacket and the pockets are normal size, fine for hands and small stuff. Your hat would probably fit into one of the two side pockets but it would have to be rolled and folded.
Answered on 4/25/2014 6:25:32 PM by Dogman from Northern California
    • Answer Typical side hand pockets pretty small, but deeper than my Northface shell. A Napoleon chest pocket large enough for my smartphone and one mesh internal chest pocket. If you have a small dome then maybe you could compact the sombrero enough to squish into one of the hand pockets.

    • Answer Here are the pockets. Two lover pockets lined with the same material as the collar. Very comfy. Inside upper pocket lined in mesh. Outside upper pocket lined between the two membrane panels of the jacket. Also, you could stow it in the hood zip pocket.
There is not a rear pocket.

    • Answer I tad bit shorter 5'10" and currently hovering around 180lbs due to a back injury. With My Denali fleece underneath the jacket is a bit snug with just a flannel shirt on. Zipping it up is doable but snug. Once zipped I can move around easily to include shoveling snow or playing w/ the dogs.

Arm length for me is a tad long but with the fleece underneath it, perfect. As I continue to drop weight (normal weight is around 172) I expect this to be a perfect fit for me. I don't have wide shoulders and medium is my normal T-shirt size.
