Excellent shell. Extremely warm, unbelievably windproof, completely waterproof.

Sizing is larger than "casual clothing" but perfect for outdoor use. Shells should be slightly long (in chest and sleeves) so you don't get wet! Just don't expect a tight fit. I'm 6' and 170 lbs, and the Medium fits me ... Read More

Other reviewers have mentioned sizing issues. This jacket is designed and true to size when used with another jacket underneath. It's a little baggy when worn by itself but small price to be able to layer with jackets, sweaters or vests. It has the Marmot zippin feature which allows another compatible jacket to be zipped inside, similar to Columbia and North Face systems. Requires a jacket with large tooth zippers like the Marmot Calen or Ama Dablan, I have a North Face Red point that will also match.

over the years i have picked up a few marmot products form STP. I like the quality of Marmot and STP has been able to offer many of them at a discounted price. This jacket is well made. Zippers are smooth. I am 6'1' 200 lbs and the LG fits great. Like that the jacket can have an additional layer zipped in....something like a vest or a fleece.

I've been looking for a quality gore-tex jacket for a long time. The Marmot Cornice jacket fils the bill beautifully! The fit is just right - a bit roomy, but not too much, and warm as can be. You cannot go wrong with Marmot products - they are outstanding in all regards. Two thumbs up for a great jacket!

My husband received this jacket for Christmas. It is just what he wanted. The jacket looks classy can be worn for every day activities. It will be good for skiing, also. Highly recommended.

    The Good:
    Gore-Tex/ Marmot Quality.
Bought XL/ slightly roomy for my 5'7" frame; but sadly for me, I fill it up @ 200 lbs... ha!
Excellent zip-in for thick fleece, or puffy down jacket underneath (quite warm and cozy)!
Excellent hood which stows away quite nicely, if desired.
High collar with fleece lining (a simple, yet luxurious option...)

    The Bad:
My wife would kill me if I bought another one, in Black (I got the Surf Blue = quite stylish)!
I wish it had additional drawcords at the waistline, like some other Marmot...but still five stars!

    • Answer Mark, I really don't know. On the Sierra page it says Performance shell fabric. Maybe Marmot just changed the way they do the logo on the arm. I just don't know this is my first shell from them.

    • Answer I've been using this in Jackson, WY. The one I bought is Gore-Tex. It was sewn in the arm and was a tag on the garment itself.

I've been using it to bike ride to work in and it was great in 20 degree days with a Marmot vest in it. Now with snow piling up, I look forward to skiing it the same way this winter with the vest.

  • Question ““What do you have now (Fall 2014) that will zip into this jacket as a liner?” ”
Asked on 9/22/2014 12:45:08 PM by PStar from WNY
    • Answer hi paul
I tried Sierra and they don't have a liner, and they suggested an outfit in Canada (I'm from Canada) I contacted them and they never got back to me. I would be very interested in a liner, because I am very pleased with the jacket. The water repellence is fabulous.

  • Question “Why no numeric waterproof and breathable ratings?”
Asked on 9/19/2014 8:53:13 AM by Rider in the Rain from Minnesota
    • Answer I'm not sure why no numeric ratings. But, I have a ski friend that used this jacket last season and he is extremely pleased with it's performance. During wet, heavy snow days, he claims great sealing and is perfectly dry in it especially on shoulders/back and on top of arms. Also, it's "wear" factor is great. Though a slightly lighter weight material than some other brands, "surface" wear is great, particularly at front zipper and pockets, and at the wrist cuff.

    • Answer Unfortunately I have through the tags away, i cannot show the technical datds for these rating.
But the jacket really perform good under rain in waterproof, and it breathe good. I once ran und medium rain without umbrella and I am still dry. For waterproof I would prefer 4.9 for 5.
As for the breathable, I rather prefer 4, as a conice jacket it is perfect but of course it cannot compara with pure cotton.

  • Question “What does it have for pockets? I like to carry my " Seattle Sombreo " ....”
Asked on 4/25/2014 7:27:43 AM by Kryder from Pacific NW
    • Answer The Marmot jacket has two side pockets that are a bit deeper/larger than normal. I do not know what a " Seattle Sombreo " is, but I carry my fluffy fleece gloves in the pockets with no problems.

    • Answer Standard outside pockets plus 2 inside. although if you zip in a liner I couldn't access one of my inside pockets. I'm looking for a lighter weight liner too.
The Northface Denali works for really cold weather but once I get back into skiing I need something a bit less weight.
Answered on 4/25/2014 7:42:57 AM by SiteCR2 from Colorado
    • Answer I don't know what a 'Seattle Sombreo' is - but you should have plenty with this jacket. There are two chest pockets and two hand pockets on the outside + a zippered chest pocket on the inside for security items. Pockets and zippers seem to be well designed and function well.

    • Answer Two pockets (one on each side) lower part of jacket. Zip and velcro closures. One vertical zip left breast pocket on outside as well. One interior vertical zip pocket inside right.

    • Answer Hmmm not sure what a Seattle Sombreo is, but I can say that if you have belly strap on your pack the pockets are still useable as is difficult with most similar products...I don't think you can carry hat to do Mexican Hat dance though!!!!!
Answered on 4/25/2014 11:32:32 AM by avid hiker from New Hampshire
    • Answer This is a great jacket and the pockets are normal size, fine for hands and small stuff. Your hat would probably fit into one of the two side pockets but it would have to be rolled and folded.

    • Answer Typical side hand pockets pretty small, but deeper than my Northface shell. A Napoleon chest pocket large enough for my smartphone and one mesh internal chest pocket. If you have a small dome then maybe you could compact the sombrero enough to squish into one of the hand pockets.

    • Answer Here are the pockets. Two lover pockets lined with the same material as the collar. Very comfy. Inside upper pocket lined in mesh. Outside upper pocket lined between the two membrane panels of the jacket. Also, you could stow it in the hood zip pocket.
There is not a rear pocket.

    • Answer I tad bit shorter 5'10" and currently hovering around 180lbs due to a back injury. With My Denali fleece underneath the jacket is a bit snug with just a flannel shirt on. Zipping it up is doable but snug. Once zipped I can move around easily to include shoveling snow or playing w/ the dogs.

Arm length for me is a tad long but with the fleece underneath it, perfect. As I continue to drop weight (normal weight is around 172) I expect this to be a perfect fit for me. I don't have wide shoulders and medium is my normal T-shirt size.
