Marmot Destination Jacket - Waterproof (For Women)

Marmot upgraded this jacket from its last iteration. It's now completely waterproof, with a better, trimmer fit, and stronger fabric (the last one pilled almost immediately). The color is a lovely bright navy, the collar is lined with soft fleece, and the hood can be zipped off. I'm 5'4", 135 lbs, and the P/S fits perfectly.

This coat is extremely lightweight and the knee length offers better coverage than many jackets. The slight shaping is figure-flattering.The waterproofing seems to work fine. The hood fits fairly close to the head and has a drawcord, so it doesn't blow off when it gets windy. I can't think of anything not to like about this coat.

The fabric and design and construction are all excellent. I put it to the test in a big rainstorm and stayed nice and dry. The color is attractive, not too fussy with embellishments or pockets so it looks trim and stylish. You can dress up or down.

I selected this coat because of its longer length, and tried both small and medium sizes. Both had ample room in the hips but were very close-fitted across the chest and in the arms (the arms were long enough in the medium, but too close-cut to allow a light layer underneath.) I'm rather pear-shaped, so the fit was quite a surprise. I loved many of the details on this coat (snaps instead of velcro on the zipper, lots of pockets, great hood, etc.). The overall quality is very good, but for me the fit was just weird.
