I really love this jacket. I also got the Marmot Grafton coat, which I don't like as much. It gets hot under the arm pits. This soft shell duke is perfect. It fits nice. The material is nice. Soft, movable, not noisy. Arm pit zippers for when you get hot. Lots of pockets. The hood cinches down in the back of the head and on the sides. It also zips up past neck. I don't know how it is in heavy rain, but it works good in light rain and wind. I am from Kodiak, AK originally, but out-of-state for the time being in upstate, NY near Rochester. This jacket is perfect for Alaska, anywhere, but especially windy places like Seward, where I used to live; windy places like Homer, AK, where I used to live; or windy and rainy places like Kodiak, AK. However, it is also perfect here for light rain, going up on ski lifts to see the fall colors and just running around. I have other nice coats, wool, etc., for nice cultural events, but I always grab this one. The others remain in the box. This coat would be perfect for traveling, too. In fact, I thought I would like the Grafton better, and tried to decide between the two, ending up keeping both. The Grafton is a nice parka, but it's not very warm. I like to line the Grafton with this softshell. I really like how soft and movable is is. I took it out on a boat tour on Canandaigua Lake, which was very windy, and I'm glad did. I can't say enough about it. By the way, I am a female, but I tend to like the Men's jackets, in Carharrts, etc., which are built much better. I've tried all the sizes and many styles in Women's Marmot's, but they just don't fit right. Odd fits, and not as hefty, or built to last. I have a summer soft shell breathable Marmot which I live in the rest of the year, summer through fall. This is my new "go to" coat. Can't say enough about it! Oh, I also like that it is a little long, covering me more for when the wind kicks up. I tried it in a small, but it was tiny, shoulders and everything were so small. The medium fits perfectly. Also, with the women's marmot's, the pockets were oddly small. Not so with the men's. I also like that marmot's have a lifetime guarantee which I registered both of my new coats. As always, thanks STP!!!
