Great looking jacket and highly versatile. We're heading to Yosemite and this jacket will cover me for all weather conditions. It feels a bit bulky with the liner in but it's warm as heck and fully waterproof. Everything about the jacket is high quality and I'm looking forward to years of both casua... Read More

I just received a 2XL Marmot Frontside Component Jacket and first order was to unpack the jacket and scrutinize the quality, fit (with liner and without) and various attributes. This is a quality piece for the cost. It was purchased as a closeout, but I believe the opinion is just in that the replacement version is the Sidehill model or very close. The difference? I noticed the Sidehill has a coating applied to the outer shell for additional waterproofing. Is it really needed? Probably not if the primary use is for skiing and that is my application.

Fit - With the fleece liner, not too snug for a guy my size with plenty of room in the arms and chest and enough length in the overall jacket to work well. Without the fleece liner, plenty of room for layering which is exactly what I was seeking. Great coverage when fully zipped for good protection from the weather and a comfortable fit around the neck (I'm a size 19) A+

Pockets - Enough for me as I find the size of the pockets adequate and enough for what I need. I particularly am not hung up on lots of pockets as I don't want to be loading everything including the kitchen sink into a jacket or shell as I find it cumbersome lugging around a bunch of 'stuff'. I want a jacket to serve as a barrier, not a pack. The side hand pockets are fleece lined and large enough to stuff a glove or mitten into with tight water barrier zippers. Chest pockets are flap type with good velcro closures. A

Liner - The liner is unlined which I personaly like - no cold spots when putting the jacket on. Over the top of an under layer garment like an Under Armor piece or similar product, it goes on smoothly with no hang ups. Zippers tuck in nicely under the 'zipper flaps' and I do not see any issues with these unzipping while wearing IF the zippers are secured properly. A

Hood - Plenty large enough with easy one hand adjustments on each side to snug it down if needed and additional draw cord in the center back of the hood for full three point adjustment. This is a zip off hood with zipper cover flap for added protection. A

Sleeves - Full velcro strip in the cuffs to secure as needed and quick to secure and change as needed over variuos glove / mitten configurations. Armpit vent zippers are easily opened with one hand for venting. The liner sleeves secure via a stitched hole in the liner sleeve to loop a lead that is attached on the shell sleeve that snaps closed. The liner is easy to secure when putting the liner back in the jacket. I found the time to reinstall the liner quick and simple with no issues. A+

Front Zipper - YKK with flap and velcro tab fasteners and snap on the bottom of the jacket. A

Powder Skirt - Snaps in the front and utilizes a stretch and rubber / grabber type full length taping to minimize slipping. There is an adjustable elastic cord to snug the fit as needed in addition to the skirt to minimize cold air exchange. A+

Windproof - Pretty much bullet proof keeping internal temps in check. A

Overall, a great jacket for a component system and the price paid. No question it will hold up to many years of use. Buy it while they last or the Sidehill!

I was looking for a new winter ski jacket. This one fits the bill for the cold Montana winters. It is a bit on the bulky side, but that will be nice when it is -10(F) on the slopes this winter.
