I bought this jacket to replace the Marmot Sharp Point jacket I bought in '07 and have thoroughly abused. I was looking for a Marmot soft-shell (I swear by their quality) with a hood (the way the neck zipped on the Sharp Point wasn't completely satisfactory) and with a slightly more "athletic" fit. Found it! The Genesis is perfect. It's just roomy enough for a few technical layers underneath, the hood is sized for a winter hat / helmet, and the sleeves are just the right length. If there's a down-side, it's that the main zipper is definitely a two-handed job. Otherwise, I can't wait to get this out in the snow!

I own an XL for fall/Spring use as a rain jacket. The hood bill is large and superb at keeping rain off the face and away from the body. I have an XXL for active xc skiing winter use in sub-sub-zero weather here on the Bering Sea coast in Alaska. The XXL allows sufficient layering. The XL does not for winter use. I appreciate the microfleece lining throughout the jacket. Nice touch for when you don't want to wear long sleeves in the fall or spring. The marterial is quieter than regular Gore-tex at real cold temps. I use it for backcountry to track skiing. Excellent rain jacket, and highly protective winter jacket. Pit-zips are what makes this jacket work.

This is a great jacket. I was looking for a BC ski coat that was more breathable than a traditional hard shell but still had a hood and pit zips. This jacket fits the bill and Marmot fits me well. I'm 5'10" and 185 and the M fits great. It could have a little bit of a longer back length to keep out snow better, but if you have bibs it is not a problem.

I use this jacket to ski. I'm a ski patroller and the features this jacket has and quality it displays are the things I look for in a jacket. The iPod e-pocket fits my iphone perfectly, keeping it in reach for plugging into my helmet to listen to tunes and keep in touch.

Excellent product in terms of design and materials. My only complaint is the pitzips - these are a bit stiff and difficult to operate (fairly easy to open but quite difficult to close) and the pitzips are not that deep (limited ventilation compared to other products made by Marmot such as the Sharp Point softshell).

At this price point, with a discount, this jacket is an amazing value. That said, however, it is not for casual wear in which you probably would prefer a more supple and stretchy exterior. It is very much a technical jacket with a rubberized-like shell. Nevertheless, it is bomb proof and a nice alternative to a hard shell in some situations: if you don't know what those are, perhaps you shouldn't be buying this jacket. If a gigantic monster were to throw me down a mountain with terrifying force, yet gave me a choice of which jacket to wear, this would be it.

I am a hiker and glorified hill walker so I was looking forward to a soft shell with a hood. The style and design are great for adventuring but it feels very rubbery and looks like a giant pumpkin. There are soft shells with much better feels while hiking and climbing.

Marmot really did it with this jacket. Welded construction rather than seemed should be very durable. If you like the roomy fit of the Sharp Point as well as the pit zips, but would like the addition of a hood then this one is for you. It doesn't have the winstopper membrane, but is still very wind resistant and most likely a tad more breathable because of that. M1 shell technology means it's very warm and made to wear over 1-2 layers. The fit is perfect - length of the sleeves as wells both the fit around the chest and waist and finally length at the torso. I'm 6'0" 185 pounds and I feel like the jacket was custom made for me.
