  • 5.0 out of 5 stars. Simple, wind-proof, dry.

Bought this jacket last year after being disappointed with a previous (highly-rated) ski jacket. The cut is a little boxy, which is not a problem if, like me, you like to wear multiple insulating midlayers. It's warm and light, and I love the simple styling (mine is a sort of purple, with lime trim), the many pockets, and the pit zips for the rare occasion I actually get too hot. The hood fits over my ski helmet but is also adjustable to fit well without a helmet for wearing around town. Most importantly, it keeps the wind out on the chairlift! Do check the size chart before you buy -- I found it to be accurate.
  • 5.0 out of 5 stars. Kept Me Dry, Warm and Comfortable

I bought this jacket because I am going to Alaska in June. I needed something that would keep me warm, but would not take up too much room in my suitcase. I live in Southern California and we haven't had much rain lately and the weather is normally in the 70's, this time of year. However, last weekend, it rained and my usually Sunday plans were cancelled. So, I decided to go to the mountains for a nice, long hike. When I got to Mt. Wilson, the temperature was probably in the low to mid 50's, not too, too cold and it was drizzling. I set off for my hike 7.2 mile hike on a steep and strenuous trail. As I was walking, I knew it was drizzling, but I really couldn't tell because I didn't feel wet at all. About 2.5 miles into my hike, it started to rain. I was well into my hike and there was no turning back and I was excited to really test out my Marmot Grenoble GORE-TEX Jacket. I had never heard of Gore-Tex and I had my doubts of it keeping me dry. It took my approximately 4 hours to complete my hike, lunch stop included. Once it started raining, it did not stop. To my amazement and delight, my upper body was perfectly dry AND I was not cold. I even took my time and causally strolled through the woods, during the last mile because I was so comfortable. I had worn a long sleeve Body Glove, under the jacket, a neck warmer, and cotton gloves. The gloves were a big mistake. When I got home I tried to find Gore-Tex gloves because I thought the product was amazing and I want my hands to be dry for future rain outings. Once I got home, I hung my jacket to dry and once it did and I put it away, I found myself talking to my jacket and saying, "I love you". :) This was a perfect purchase for my upcoming Alaska trip and I am extremely pleased with my purchase.

About Marmot

Conceived in a university dorm room by a pair of climbing buddies, Marmot Mountain Works first opened its doors in the spring of 1974 in Grand Junction, Colorado. At the time, the base of operations was a 100-year-old stone building. That same year, the first Marmot down jacket was produced specifically for an action flick called “The Eiger Sanction,” starring legendary actor Clint Eastwood. In the four decades since, Marmot has continued to engineer reliable gear that exceeds the expectations of outdoor athletes. Today, Marmot tents, backpacks, outerwear, clothing and Marmot sleeping bags are still pushing the limits in the planet’s most challenging conditions, from the summits of the world’s highest mountains to the deepest river basins.
