This is a real Marmot jacket. I spoke with a Marmot rep and they confirmed It is not a remake of the Kingpin. Marmot made this jacket specifically for Sierra Trading Post. It is basically the Super Hero Jacket, now being called the Elementalist. Marmot has so much volume with Sierra, that they can make their own line just for the site.

A great feature rich soft shell from marmot. this looks to be a prototype jacket. The fabric and design is top notch. i was looking for a soft shell with good features, warmer than average soft shells, has a good adjustable hood, and durable. This jacket fits all my criteria. I like the design and placement of pockets. I intend to use this jacket for winter sprots and winter steelheading. sould be a great jacket for that. The fabric is substential but still has a good bit of stretch. the weather protection is top nothch. Sierra Trading Post did a poor job of describing this jacket. The fornt zipper and chest pockets' zippers are not welded. They are stitched and only water resistent. I wish Sierra made a better effort to describe their products. The fit of this jacet is perfect for a soft shell. I wear a medium in Patagonia and couldveil and I bought a Medium in this jacket which fits perfectly. I do not like sloppy fitting soft shells.
    • Best Uses: Winter sports
    • Cons: May Be Not A Breathable, nothing really
    • Pros: Feature rich, Good Fit, Great adjustable hood, Great fabric, Pit zips, Solid Construction, Very water repellent, Very well designed, Warm And Good Protection, Well placed pockets, Wind proof

This will be my go-to-parka for Spring through Fall outings. It's cut for an athletic build (Large would fit a 32" or 34" waist idealy; I'm 35" and 6-0 ft tall) and was OK over a light sweater, but would be tight over multiple layers. Sleve length was fine and an ExL would have been too long.It gave excellent wind protection, but haven't used it in the rain yet.
    • Best Uses: Camping, Hiking, Spring-fall Canoeing
    • Cons: Could Use Inside Pocket
    • Pros: Convenient Outer Pockets, Excellent wind protection, true fit to size, Well constructed

Just bought this to replace another Marmot softshell that was not fully windproof. The red color looks great on this jacket (good for visibility as well). The material feels different since it has the Goretex lining, feels a bit more rigid than my old one and I ordered a small which fits better than the medium sized one I already had. I plan on wearing this for winter bike commuting. Saw another review claiming this was fake? It doesn't look fake, the small fits snugly on my torso and I am very slim. I don't see it on the Marmot website but who cares. Key Pin, Kingpin the name doesn't matter as long as it does what is is supposed to do and the material is windproof. I figured this was a design from last year.

Strange: looks fake, but finally Marmot declared that it is made for the American market. But nowhere else to be found, and name is just slightly different from the real Kingpin Jackets, which seem a lot better. So I returned mine.
    • Cons: Not Real Kingpin Jacket, Too wide
    • Pros: Nice color

  • Question “Is this a Kingpin Jacket?”
Asked on 10/14/2012 12:00:00 AM by Thomas from United States
    • Answer This is the Key Pin Jacket which is similar to the Kingpin. It is made for Sierra Trading Post by Marmot.

  • Question “What is "Warm, breathable fleece backing"? I the jacket fleece in the back and not a full soft shell?”
Asked on 9/26/2012 12:00:00 AM by kristin from Unknown
    • Answer this is a full soft shell. The fabric is constructed of three different layers. M2 softshell fabric on the outside, Windstopper layer in the middle and fleece in the interior. so, you get water resistent and wind proof qualities (and added durability) from M2 and Windstopper. PLUS you get some light fleece like warmth from the internal fleece layer. Hope this is helpful.
