The jacket description does not make it clear that it _does_ have pit zips (an absolute necessity, in my opinion). The jacket fits well, does a great job of keeping you dry and warm, packs small, and is great for hiking. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to a friend (or to buy another!).

I could wear Columbia XL 20 lbs ago. This Merlot XL is way too tight, especially at the armpits, so tight that layering is impossible. Great quality; good looking; but weird dimensions. I'm exchanging it for a Men's Medium.

this is second of these we have purchased- high quality marmot brand, lightweight, stayed nice and dry in Kootenay rockwall trail last summer with six days of constant showers, snow. Fleece underneath, shell on top - the girls love them.

I have several Marmot jackets but the Precip purchased a couple of years ago no longer repels even a single drop of water so it was time for new rain protection. This Gore-Tex jacket should do for years. All of the Marmots in my closet are well made and even the 15 year old winter shell hardly looks used. This jacket feels a little stiff but is light weight and soft and flexible so it is bound to become a new favorite.

My daughter has worn other raincoats and had always complained about feeling damp in the rain. She wore her Marmot Optima Gore-Tex raincoat today in the rain and called to tell me that she was dry. Other raincoats manufacturers may say they keep you dry, but this one really does.

Overall - I like it a lot. It is a good mid weight and the color (aqua) was prettier in real life - which is always nice. An improvement would be an inside pocket. I did not find that it ran small, as other reviewers mentioned. Because of their comments, I ordered the large (I am tall (5'-10") and average weight). I'm pretty sure the medium would have been fine, but I just kept the large so I can layer easily. If you like things more fitted, keep that in mind.

It's been raining a ton since I bought it, so I can tell you it is functional!

  • Question “Does it have a liner? If so what material is it?”

Asked on 8/14/2016 9:18:32 AM by Bettina from Sc
    • Answer No liner .. It is PacLite Goretex ... Most rain jackets do not have liners. It is a great jacket for staying dry in the rain or snow .. In snow you need to where layers underneath the jacket. Hope this helps.

    • Answer there is no lining to this jacket. it is a single layer, not even a mesh lining. my experience so far is that is has not gotten clammy in the summer. i wore it in 40-50F temps and it was a little chilly for that. it's been great in the summer. there are zippered pit vents. hope this helps.

    • Answer Only Marmot could confirm but they seem to match up, spec wise. Optima, per STP is 15 oz. wt., 27" length; Minimalist, per Marmot is 14.4 oz. wt. and 27.25" length. Otherwise, all other specs appear identical.
