I bought one of these jackets about 10 years ago, used it often and loved it. Recently I was walking in a torrential downpour that it resisted but couldn't keep up with. However, it had been washed and hung to dry numerous times so I ordered a new one. I hike, ride bikes, camp, go out on the boat... Read More

I bought this rain coat for the express purpose that I am hiking the Ice Age Trail of Wisconsin.

I just got back from hiking at Turkey Run State Park, which is a very moist environment to begin
with and to top it, it rained a few days to boot.

I love the crisp pink color of the coat, the arm vents work great, I really like the jacket.

The cons are: Very Crinkly and Noisy (hoping this will diminish with age) and even
with a tank top on, I was a sticky

Bought this jacket for a Costa Rican Ecotour during the rainy season and it definitely came in handy. Kept me dry, although sometimes a bit warm (even with the arm vents open) in the frequent downpours. Fits beautifully with all the adjustment features and packs small.

Sharp enough to use as a go-to-work raincoat, if you don't mind a little rustling from the coated fabric when you sit in the car. Hood rolls up, with a velcro tipped strap to hold it in place (kinda - still a little bunchy). Seemed to work fine in the one shower I walked through so far.

I had one of these for about a year before losing it. I liked it so much for the price I got it for on STP that I got one for my husband and daughter. And after losing mine, ended up buying another for myself. I'm 5'6" about 125lbs with a smaller upper body (usually wear a small or x-small in shirts) - I had a small the first time and a medium this time (the only size available). Both work fine. The medium is a bit big but I'll be able to wear it over bulky fleece. I like how light and packable (stuffs into a pocket) it is. And has been greT in the rain and wind.

    • Answer The jacket is goes just about to the hip bones, perhaps 8" below the waist. Very nice jacket - tested it in Alaska. I fell into a river briefly, had the jacket on over my fishing waders. We were told to wear breathable, quick dry clothing for our 'adventures'. Now I see exactly why. I took off the jacket, hung it on a branch and it dried in minutes! Perfect.

    • Answer I don't know the measurements, but on me (5'2") the front is mid-hip length, and the back is curved and comes a bit lower. Fyi, by now I've taken this jacket on several hiking trips where we encountered steady rain. It performed very well and has some really convenient features (pit zips to avoid overheating, soft lining where it comes to your chin, ability to pack it into its own pocket and easily throw it in a pack until needed). I've been very happy with mine.

Answered on 4/7/2014 7:22:28 PM by Sassycat from MA
    • Answer Yes. This is a sweet little jacket with nice details like that for such little weight. Stuffs up quite small and is light enough to always have in the daypack. The zippered pockets are oriented high enough that they are accessible above a pack waistbelt. Both zipper and hook-and-loop closure for the front, handy should the zipper fail when out. Very happy I purchased this.

    • Answer "Pit zips" are the ventilation zippers offered on many hard-shell jackets, usually located right at the armpit or close to it.

  • Question “Does this jacket have a double ended zipper? Double opening?”
Asked on 3/6/2014 10:46:08 AM by Lori from Oregn
    • Answer No, it only zips up from bottom.... But all zippers are well protected from rain
      . Waterproof indeed.

    • Answer No, it does not, sorry.
Answered on 3/6/2014 11:18:59 AM by Yuriy from Moscow, Russia
    • Answer No, the zipper is NOT double-ended, so if you use the zipper at all, the bottom will always be zipped closed.
Answered on 3/6/2014 11:38:54 AM by AK Hiker from AK
    • Answer It is only one way, a regular zipper. I bought it for my daughter, a medium, she says it's a perfect fit & she loves it.

  • Question “does the hood roll up and stow in the collar or can it be removed via zipper or snaps?”
Asked on 12/31/2013 3:43:35 PM by Scott, the husband from New Jersey
    • Answer No, and no. The hood is there all the time--this is not one of those super-light windbreakers / rain jackets with a removable or hidden hood, this is a serious rain jacket.
Answered on 12/31/2013 3:54:55 PM by AK Hiker from AK
    • Answer inner collar but doesn't store hood. collar does keep wind and rain out.
      hood is attached not removable.
Answered on 12/31/2013 6:37:22 PM by rrvol from ohio
    • Answer The hood rolls up and Velcro's into place with the back tab that adjusts the hood while it is up. I like it this way because the rain doesn't get a chance to come into the jacket at the neck. I like it!!!!

  • Question “How will this jacket hold up in the wind?”
Asked on 12/3/2013 11:14:40 AM by lose the 'tude from PCT
    • Answer This jacket is waterproof, but not windproof. It should have some wind protection, but it is not designed with that in mind. You will probably want to layer as it is not insulated.
Answered on 12/3/2013 11:43:15 AM by Product Specialist Greg from Sierra Trading Post
    • Answer Perfectly! I wear it all the time as a windproof layer, even when it isn't raining. (I live in a windy, stormy part of the country.) This jacket design no longer has the cinch cord on the front of the hood to snug it around the face (older models did, and I used that feature). Might want a stocking-style hat under the hood in cold, windy conditions to keep the ears warm...But you can use the velcro tab on the back of the hood to "shorten" it. I love this jacket, and do recommend it!
