5.0 out of 5 stars. Just Right!

I bought one of these jackets about 10 years ago, used it often and loved it. Recently I was walking in a torrential downpour that it resisted but couldn't keep up with. However, it had been washed and hung to dry numerous times so I ordered a new one. I hike, ride bikes, camp, go out on the boat and it is my go to lightweight jacket to run errands. It can be packed up tight to carry along to have when I need it. I live in a temperate rain forest so this is the perfect outer layer during spring, summer and fall. I'm keeping the old one because I can't bear to part with it and it still has life in it - just not in a heavy rain! I like this new one better because they made the back a bit longer than the front so that your back stays better covered when bending.

  • 5.0 out of 5 stars. Excellent jacket for tall people

The jacket is super lightweight but it is way too long for me. Although the back length is 27-inch, it is a hip length on me. The inner lining is polyester so it will be chill in cold weather. This jacket would be best for tall people in the Summer or Fall. Too bad I need to return it. Sierra makes it super easy for returning just $2.95 return shipping if I want store credit which I will be using it for other purchases. Thank you.

  • 2.0 out of 5 stars. Inside lining peels off in tiny pieces.

Wore this jacket for a few spring/fall seasons while horseback riding or hiking. The jacket did well as far as being windproof, but my jacket was NOT waterproof. Caught in a rainshower, the rain soaked through the jacket's material. I got mad at myself, thinking that I hadn't read online descriptions carefully enough. But no, this jacket is supposed to be waterproof! Then, after taking the jacket off, I'd find little bits and pieces of thin gray plastic on my clothes. It took me longer than it should have to realize that the interior lining of the jacket was crumbling off like old deteriorated plastic.
    I regret the purchase..... :(

  • 2.0 out of 5 stars. Not so waterproof

I've bought two of these here, and I'm not impressed. I know, why did I buy the second one? Because I thought the first one had just over time lost its waterproof qualities, and although I tried restoring it, it just didn't work. But when I got the new one, and right away it was damp inside after a hard rain, I realized it's the jacket. I can't recommend it.

About Marmot

Conceived in a university dorm room by a pair of climbing buddies, Marmot Mountain Works first opened its doors in the spring of 1974 in Grand Junction, Colorado. At the time, the base of operations was a 100-year-old stone building. That same year, the first Marmot down jacket was produced specifically for an action flick called “The Eiger Sanction,” starring legendary actor Clint Eastwood. In the four decades since, Marmot has continued to engineer reliable gear that exceeds the expectations of outdoor athletes. Today, Marmot tents, backpacks, outerwear, clothing and Marmot sleeping bags are still pushing the limits in the planet’s most challenging conditions, from the summits of the world’s highest mountains to the deepest river basins.
