5.0 out of 5 stars. The only jacket I need

Can't say enough good things about this jacket. The breathability and wind stopping are as good as advertised and it is more waterproof than I expected. Kept me dry when I got caught in a long rain shower on my latest hike. Was able to adjust the hood perfectly to keep rain off my face without blocking my view down the trail. The pockets are roomy without being bulky. The material is silky smooth and so light. I love this jacket!

Thinner soft shell material than previous ROM versions. Cut is semi fitted. Overall felt flimsy, unstructured, more like windbreaker. Expected more from marmot. Tried L, fit was loose, 5'11" and 155lbs.
  • 4.0 out of 5 stars. Functional and cute but thin

The jacket fits beautifully. I am 5'5" 125lb with curvy hips and the medium is perfect. As others have said, for a soft shell it's very thin. There is no lining, just a thin shell. I have been putting a fleece under it and it's perfect for like 30 degrees. I think it will also be great with a thin layer for hiking or backcountry skiing.
  • 5.0 out of 5 stars. Great jacket

I bought this to use as a rain jacket, hiking shell, and as a wind layer over an insulting down jacket, and couldn't be happier. I bought a small, which fits fine over my down layer, and still has nice freedom in the shoulders and arms. I'm 5ft tall and about 115lbs, and the small was the right choice.
  • 3.0 out of 5 stars. Great color, long arms, moderate protection

I didn't realize until I read the tag on this jacket that it is not the warmest in its class. It's called "M2," which, the tag says, "offers a great balance between weather resistance, breathability, and thermal protection, excellent for a wide range of activities in moderate conditions." I bought this jacket for cross-country skiing, for walking and running in the fall and winter, and for general protection from the wind and cold. It doesn't sound like this should be the one. However, I tend to get really hot while doing any of the above, so I think if I layer a fleece or some wool underneath, I should be fine. The arms are long on me - I'm 5'5'', 160 lbs, with broad swimmer's shoulders and a size 38 C chest-but that's ok (more warmth, I figure, while I'm gripping my ski poles.)
The blue-on-blue color is pretty, the hood is snug, and the collar comes to my chin and a little beyond. My sister saw it on me and thought I should keep it. I will, and I hope I don'g regret not seeking out a warmer version. The price was right for a jacket of this degree of quality.

About Marmot

Conceived in a university dorm room by a pair of climbing buddies, Marmot Mountain Works first opened its doors in the spring of 1974 in Grand Junction, Colorado. At the time, the base of operations was a 100-year-old stone building. That same year, the first Marmot down jacket was produced specifically for an action flick called “The Eiger Sanction,” starring legendary actor Clint Eastwood. In the four decades since, Marmot has continued to engineer reliable gear that exceeds the expectations of outdoor athletes. Today, Marmot tents, backpacks, outerwear, clothing and Marmot sleeping bags are still pushing the limits in the planet’s most challenging conditions, from the summits of the world’s highest mountains to the deepest river basins.
