Just what I was looking for. Mid weight jacket for colder weather, comfortable, breathable, roomy enough for layers. Typical solid Marmot construction, tuff zippers, pit zips, powder skirt (removeable), protected fleece chin. Like some have said, the sleeves are slightly long, but with the velcro... Read More
Reviewed by BCPOWDR from Salt Lake City, Utah on Wednesday, November 6, 2013Ive been able to try this jacket twice so far in the BC this season. One outing at 17degrees and one at 14 degrees. Skinned up 1500 feet for a powder run. Even at this low temp, the pit zip came into play. M1 rating keeps you warm, the pit zips keep you regulated. Cant really see a good Softshell without pit zips, unless its for show and not go. I was considering a marmot soft shell with a light panel under the arms with M2 rating by Marmot, No Pit Zip, so went with the Vertical. Glad I did, the ability to regulate breathability is important to me and no SS material ive tried without PZ works as well as haveing them. overall construcion is great, wish it had bigger hand pockets openings to get the skins in. The powder skirt will compensate for the small opening and I'll put the skins inside the coat.

Typical solid Marmot construction, tuff zippers, pit zips, powder skirt (removeable), protected fleece chin. Like some have said, the sleeves are slightly long, but with the velcro cuffs, I didn't find it a problem. This is now my go to jacket for everything from around town, to x-country skiing. Be advised, this is more insulated/heavy than the typical softshell. I would say it needs to be 50F or colder to be comfortable in this jacket. But 50 and up I'm usually in hoodies anyway.
Reviewed by CaBoom from NorCal on Wednesday, September 25, 2013I bought the jacket with the intention of a "do it all jacket". Awesome price, awesome fast shipping first off. The fit; I am 5'10" and 170lb medium build. Not fat, fit, but not too much upper body bulk, and this jacket fits great everywhere but the armpits. I don't know what cut Marmot is using, but, a large fits well, but tight in the pits. You could layer underneath but it will fit funky. A medium is a hair small and short on the sleeve length. Nice jacket, weird fit.
Reviewed by dig from AK on Thursday, August 29, 2013If you need to layer and you will order one size up. Hood bill needs to be stiffer or have a stay in it. Other than that fine jacket.
Reviewed by Jeff '59 from Oviedo FL on Friday, June 14, 2013I bought this as a sporty cool weather jacket for casual wear and occasional outdoor adventures. Mine is two shades of gray with neon yellow zips and it looks really sharp. Looks very well made and feels warm but I haven't been able to put that to the test yet here in FL. The removable hood adds flexibility for varying weather, and my favorite feature is the pit zips - they really add a huge amount of cooling where needed when you start working hard, and I wish more jackets had them. I'm a size large (5' 10 1/2", 190 lbs, 44" chest, 34" waist) and the jacket fits me well in street clothes, and should be ok with a mid-layer if ever needed. Worth a lot more than I paid through Sierra Trading Post - great jacket at a great price.
