I really wanted a very warm jacket and this fits the bill. My son is the 30th percentile for height and a very skinny kid. I needed to get one size smaller because he was kind of on the borderline. The jacket has room to grow. It's a little wide so will have to put something thick underneath. It would've been good if it had a drawstring or a cuff inside to stop the wind going up because of the loose fit.
    • Best Uses: Cold Weather, Extreme Conditions, Skiing/Snowboarding
    • Chest Size: Feels too big
    • Cons: Fit Not For Skinny Kid
    • Describe Yourself: Casual/ Recreational
    • Fit: Feels too big
    • Pros: Comfortable, Durable, Room To Grow, Warm, Warmth Guaranteed
    • Sleeve Length: Feels too long
    • Was this a gift?: No

This would have been a great jacket for my son except for two problems. The main problem is that the sleeves were so short that the jacket was unwearable -- they were so short that even long-ish mittens did not help. We've never had this problem with other jackets. The second problem, much more minor, was that the black fabric seems to pick up (and show) lint and pet fur very easily. Had to return this jacket.

Coat is durable and warm. Good performance and good deal for around the low one hundreds Sierra Trading Post price. But, both the sleeve and jacket length run small. My 13 year old son currently wears a 14 in another brand and we initially ordered XL, which Marmot claims is 13-15...no way!! We had to exchange for 2XL, which fit much better.

About Marmot

Conceived in a university dorm room by a pair of climbing buddies, Marmot Mountain Works first opened its doors in the spring of 1974 in Grand Junction, Colorado. At the time, the base of operations was a 100-year-old stone building. That same year, the first Marmot down jacket was produced specifically for an action flick called “The Eiger Sanction,” starring legendary actor Clint Eastwood. In the four decades since, Marmot has continued to engineer reliable gear that exceeds the expectations of outdoor athletes. Today, Marmot tents, backpacks, outerwear, clothing and Marmot sleeping bags are still pushing the limits in the planet’s most challenging conditions, from the summits of the world’s highest mountains to the deepest river basins.
