Merrell Ava Car Coat - Waterproof (For Women)

This is a great looking coat that receives compliments everywhere it goes. It needs a little breaking in, as the fabric is fairly stiff, and there is not a lot of room in the shoulders--a bit difficult to layer. I generally wear an XL or 14-16, and this was sized as 16-18, but I could still use more room in the shoulder (or maybe I need an upper-arm workout!). Very good for Chicago fall and rain. I was hoping, based on other reviews, that it would make a good winter coat, but I'll have to wear a good warm liner underneath. Overall, an excellent deal, and a beautiful garment.

The other reviewers were right about this being stylish, and more important, it keeps you dry! Tested it out in 55 degree pouring rain and it kept me dry and happy while looking great. Bought the eggshell with the contrasting piping and it is very elegant. Love the hood, the soft material at the neck, the 3 great zipper pockets (2 hand and one inside coat), the fact that the belt is integrated so it always stays with the coat, the interior cuff at the sleeves so the wind stays out. NICE JOB Merrell! I've been looking a long time for a rain coat like this. Agree to order a size up. I am normally a size 4 top but ordered the Medium and it's perfect. Can cinch with the belt and it still looks good or wear over a sweater. Perfect.

I marked this coat as small, but that is only in comparison to other brands. For Merrell it is true to size. Very nice coat, will only be able to wear it here in Queensland, Australia, in the depths of winter but I expect in most of the US you would definitely need to wear a warmth layer underneath. It is nicely styled and I like that it has a belt that is kind of enclosed in the coat, I always end up losing coat belts otherwise.

I read the reviews that suggested ordering a size up for arm space - I did & the coat is just too baggy - no matter how many layers I tried on underneath. I would not consider this a "winter" coat by any means - at least not "winter" by Western, NY standards. It is a great coat though - knee length, which I was looking for & and no fibers extracted from an animal! Haven't found another!
