I am a biologist and hike year-round as part of my job. I always buy hiking boots a half size bigger than my shoe size, but that still felt too tight, so I ended up getting a full size larger. The first time I wore them was about 5 hours of snowshoeing with no problems...except they are not waterproof, only water resistant. I am going to try to waterproof them myself. Also, they don't have great traction on ice, but what boots do?

As a landscaper in the wet Pacific Northwest, and with beginner bunions, my boots get put to the test. I've not worn these long enough to assess durability (though past Merrell's have done so with flying colors). In every other way, I am sure I've got the right boot. And, for the fashion conscious, as a bonus, with the touch of blue, these look especially good with jeans! Just make sure to get a half size larger, particularly if you wear heavy socks.

I bought these for a 3 week trip to New Zealand, and wore them just about every day while hiking, light mountain climbing, and walking around town. The footbed is very supportive with good arch support, and the shoe is generally comfortable. It took a few serious hikes to wear in fully, since the materials are so durable. My feet stayed dry in quite rainy weather. And after all the abuse I put them through, they still look like new!

I expected these shoes to be "light hikers" but they turned out to be rather tough, significant hiking boots, well made and comfortable. Yet they have the cool styling that makes me want to wear them all the time.I don't think I could ever wear them out! I checked reviews before so I knew the sizing was a little small unless you like your shoes very snug. I like the full size larger fit.
