    This is my 2nd pair of Merrells. Nice amount of room in the toe box. The shoelaces feel a bit flimsy but so far no problems. My first pair (Siren Ventilator) is 3 years old and still going strong, but needed this pair for an upcoming trip to the Grand Canyon - these have great lug soles and slightly more padding in the ankles than the Sirens do. The mesh in these isn't as breathable as the Sirens but that's not what they are advertised for, they should be perfect for what I purchased them for which was a trip to the SW U.S. (In Florida we need all the breathability we can get) I'd like more arch support, but I have high arches.

    I had purchased a Merrel hiking shoes before and really enjoyed everything about the shoes. I wore it out, and that style was not available, so I purchased this one. Not as comfortable and it seems to run a bit smaller and narrow. But it is stiffer, great traction and I think it will work as well as i need it. But I will continue to see if I can obtain the first style again. But overall, Merrell are great shoes.
