Bottom Line:
Yes, I would recommend this to a friend
First of all, a lot of comments say to order a half size up. I wear 8.5 in Merrell, and 8.5 was the right size, 9 was too big for me. In Naot I wear 38-39 depending on the shoe, same with Ecco (just to give you some perspective).
I stand on my feet at work, and I am not the svelte girl that I used to be, so my knees and feet have a lot to bear. When things were really bad, I was pretty much hobbling to the bus stop. I had some success with other shoes, but then it snowed and the Seattle buses ran intermittently and I tore a muscle in my arch.
I tried all sorts of highly recommended arch support shoes, many very utilitarian in appearance. Some Nikes that were supposed to be amazing were barely tolerable. I put on a pair of Naots that were highly recommended as supportive, and while the width felt great on my duck feet, the support caused me to practically burst into tears. I had to cut back my hours at work. Then I stumbled upon a pair of the Plaza T-Straps, and I could walk again! I found the Plaza mid Boots on Sierra Trading Post and ordered the half size up (9). They almost worked, but my feet sloshed around in them, so I traded in for 8.5, my usual size in Keen and Merrell.
These allow me an alternative to the Plaza Ts on rainier days. Oddly, the sticky soles do not do well on rainy days on some commercial non slip floors (the bus, the post office.
In short, my feet have steadily improved wearing them, so much so, that I now can wear alternatives (such as the Naot boots that I hadn't discarded yet)
