5.0 out of 5 stars. Good first impression

I'm writing this review on a new shoe, so can't comment on wearability. The shoes are well constructed, look good, and fairly lightweight. There is arch support because the heel cups down and also because of the rubbery straps at the arch area. I usually buy a size 9 in Merrells and this one also fits in a size 9, although it is longer than Merrell Evera styles. (With most althletic shoes, I wear a size 9.5) I measure a C width; this shoe is plenty wide enough for me and the toe box is high enough not to pressure big toe. I love the grippy sole. All good things said about this shoe, yet I have a hesitation because it feels like a negative heel shoe. I don't know if it is or is supposed to be, but my heel does feel lower. I'm concerned about this because I already have enough foot, knee, and back pain and don't want to wear shoes that stretch my muscles and tendons in a way no other shoe will. Hmmm, looking at the description: shoe has "a 4 mm drop." I didn't know what that means, but I guess it means the heel is lower than the forefoot?

For me, I'm still thinking about them. For you? heck, it's impossible to recommend shoes because our feet are all so different. These are nice though and there's nothing funny rubbing anywhere.

I bought this as a gift for my sister who has problems with her heals. She says it is like walking on air, her feet don't get tired and no fatigue! Thanks so much! The price was great too as I had bought another pair for me at another retailer and I paid some $25 more. The color is pretty and it goes with any outfit including her school uniform. I'd highly recommend them!

Why did I not try this brand sooner? Several hiking friends have had this brand and like them. I prefer Asolo, but these are a great shoe and will work perfectly for shorter hikes on less rocky terrain. Also, they are perfect for walking and on the treadmill. The toe box is wide enough for my C width, and the overall shoe is comfortable and non-confining.

Purchased these shoes about 2 1/2 years ago and they are still going strong after everyday wearing and many hiking trips in them. When i first bought them they were not comfortable and in fact gave me blisters until I finally broke them in, and ever since they have been wonderful but it does take some patience. Perfect amount of grip and great for hiking in rocky terrain as well as normal trails. Their week spot would be mud due o the fact they have so much grip they can collect quite a bit on the bottom however no worse then any other "grippy" shoe. Excellent support and really hug your foot which makes them good even for long hiking if your not into having big clunky hiking boots. The longest hike ive done with them has been 15 miles in Yosemite and feet felt fine after ward. Definitely worth your money

About Merrell

The story of Merrell boots all started with a guy named Randy Merrell, who began handcrafting leather hiking boots back in 1981, shortly after graduating from industrial shoemaking school. By the mid-80s, Randy’s boots had already gained critical acclaim before being named “best boots in the world” by Backpacker Magazine. The next decade saw the arrival of new footwear, including the ever-popular Jungle Moc, which helped launch the after-sport category. Today, Merrell hiking boots, running shoes and sneakers are still among the best on the market, always combining the newest technology, innovative designs and outstanding comfort. Whether you hike, run, walk or just appreciate high-quality shoes and boots, we’re confident that you’ll love Merrell shoes.
