These are my fourth pair of Merrell hiking boots or shoes - I really love their products. Well made and have a nice fit - I have an average width foot and arch. Looking forward to the spring and getting to the mountains in these boots.

I bought these primarily for general wear and moderate day hikes. I've been happy with them in that role. The fit is good, they look nice and they are waterproof. I did take them on some pretty intense day hikes and they were very comfortable all the way through. Even though they have proven to be waterproof, they don't breath well and my feet started to sweat and not dry out effectively. I planned on mostly wearing these for work and light hiking/city walking so I'm not bothered too much by the lack of breathability. I have some gortex Vasque's that breath much better, so if that is important, look elsewhere. Overall, they fit the role I purchased them for, so I am satisfied.

  • Question “Has anybody purchased these for wearing during landscaping jobs? Need something very waterproof yet when wet doesn't smell- needs to keep my feet dry - so far no luck with any boot - also is this light weight enough to endure landscaping work all day? Thank you”
Asked on 5/28/2011 12:00:00 AM by Anonymous from Suburban Boston, MA
    • Answer I would recommend something with a Gore-Tex liner. Waterproof boots will be slightly warmer but it's worth it to keep your feet dry.
