This is a pretty great jacket for the price. I've used it as my go to jacket when living and hiking in Ecuador. In town it was a nice and stylish jacket for walking around in. It kept me plenty warm without having to zip it up in cities at high elevation (2800m). It was also great as a jacket to shed the rain. I also used it as an insulation layer when climbing the second highest peak in Ecuador. It was really great for this, and the only reason why I put a shell over it was to try and use the hood to protect my face and head some more from the 50-70 km winds and snow we were getting. I went for a long day hike that started at 3300 meters and ended near 4000 meters. The weather was cold and miserable. This jacket was plenty warm with just a t-shirt underneath. It rained on and off for most of the day. Rain didn't soak through but because there is no hood my inside collar was a bit wet. I still won't say that the jacket is waterproof (although other websites rate it to 8k waterproof and jackets rated at that level were good for the rain) I would have enjoyed pit zips, especially in the rain (but for this price you could probably pay the $50 to have them sewn in at at an outdoor repair shop). The jacket is not very light. You could get a down jacket that could keep you just as warm for less weight, but then you wouldn't have the weather resistance and tough shell that this jacket offers and they would cost you twice as much. The shell has been pretty tough and I think you might not have as much freedom as compared to another jacket. That is the price you pay for a trim fitting jacket or not having a jacket that stretches. Bottomline: solid jacket that is VERY water resistant and great for a variety of activities. I look forward to wearing it in the winter. I would definitely buy again

Nice jacket, but I'm a size 8-10 and was swimming in the medium, especially in the arm/shoulder area (I have broad shoulders, too). Also, the white color is not white: it's off-white, or a pale dove gray. It is heavy but not particularly warm.

I am not swimming in the Medium! This jacket is fitted but it is made so that there is plenty of room in the shoulders for moving around comfortably. When I tried to layer it with a bulky sweater, there was not room for me to zip the jacket but the fleece lining is soft and warm so I don't need the sweater. A big puffy down coat would be warmer, but this one looks great, is pretty warm, and is more wind resistant and waterproof than down. The spandex cuffs inside the sleeves make the jacket a lot warmer and are super comfortable. The sleeves are slightly long on me, I am 5'3". The side pockets are almost invisible when zipped but are just the right place to warm your hands when walking. I got the off-white color which looks nice but I am sure it will show dirt more than a darker color would. The tag says it is washable but I haven't needed to wash it yet. Overall, I love this jacket and expect to get a lot of use out of it.
