Decent shoe for the price

I have been a loyal Mizuno Wave Rider wearer for about 10 years. However, the last version (Wave Rider 19) did not work for me at all so I was in search of something new. I decided to try these because of the low price, figuring that if they work for running I got a great deal and if not, then I'd at least have a decent pair of shoes for knocking around (with discounts I paid $38 for them at STP). I typically wear a size 8.5-9 and sized up to a 9.5 (as I typically do with Mizunos). The 9.5 fit comfortably and was just right in the toe box (I have an average to narrow foot and don't like a wide toe box). The fit was sloppy in the heel but I was able to fix that by lock lacing them. The only concern for running, is that they have virtually no arch support. Hopefully that can be remedied by either adding foam arch supports under the sock liner or by removing the sock liner completely and adding an insole like Superfeet (which I typically never have to use because of my neutral foot). The shoe does have a semi-curved last, which I like. Even with the modifications I mentioned, I will probably not be able to wear them for distances over 2-3 miles. Obviously this is not intended to be a high end running shoe, but it is definitely not worth the retail price. If you can get them on the cheap and are okay making some modifications, it's okay for shorter runs.
