This coat is trimmer fitting than my older John Partridge duffel coat, and the wool is not quite as plush. The second week I owned it one of the toggle straps broke. I had it fixed for a small charge. My tailor liked the coat, repeating that it was "very nice," "a very nice coat." So there you have it: a nice coat with some small flaws, but worth the trouble.

Great coat. Excellent craftsmanship. This coat is "hand-made" in England. I purchased one in camel and one in charcoal. Both are nothing short of exceptional quality and great value. Again, can't stress enough how refreshing it is to find something made with care and attention to detail using "Old World" techniques. This totally feels different than the traditional Chinese mass produced garments. This is built to last and will not go out of style! I must also add that i also bought similar coat here in STP made by another English company " Gloverall" and the quality is very similar. Can't go wrong with any of these coats. I have used them in subzero temp in Canada as well as in regular cool nights in Texas and they perform very well! Highly recommended.

Like many others have said here, the leather used in the toggles is very cheap and lightweight, and the stitching to attach them is even worse. Mine did not last a month before the stitching unraveled on not one, but two toggles. Very disappointing. I'd like to think I got a poorly manufactured one, like others have mentioned with their too-short sleeves, but this is an inherent, cheap design flaw. STP is getting bolder and bolder with their fibs in their sales copy and descriptions. Look elsewhere, folks. What good is a winter coat that won't stay closed?

  • Question “How do I determine the size for myself?”
Asked on 3/2/2012 12:00:00 AM by Perry from Avon, CT
  • Question “My husband ordered the Partridge duffel sized 50 and it seems to be more like a 58 or 60; does this product run very large or did we just happen to get an unusually largely oversized one? If he is a 48 should we exchange for a 46 or 48? Do you have any recommendation?”
Asked on 12/21/2011 12:00:00 AM by Kathy from Boston, MA
    • Answer According to our fit models the Montgomery by John Partridge Classic Duffle Coat does run true to size. Returning for a size down should solve the the sizing difference. If Its just slightly to big go with the 48, If its really big go with the 46

    • Answer Kathy- I just wrote a review on the same subject for this coat. I've wanted one for years, but I ordered the smallest size available at the time (42), and I'm a 40 chest. It was way too big! I finally saw 40's at a decent price, and ordered one, but it still seemed excessively large, and the sleeves were 3" too long. I sent it back and got a 38, hoping that I didn't mess up by not getting a 36, but the 38 is perfect in the sleeves, and not too tight in the chest. It seems I read somewhere on one of the duffle coat manufacturers sites that they actually make coats with longer sleeves that are labeled as such, and wondered if maybe that's what I got. I can't imagine a 3" sleeve difference between a size 38 and 40 chest, since my sleeve size is about 32-33". The 40 had 36" sleeves, according to my tape. Anyway, I had the same problem, but I've finally got the right one, and I am one happy boy! Good luck, and keep trying. He will be glad you did.

  • Question “I'm looking for a coat that would be appropriate for winter in Fargo, North Dakota, where it routinely gets below 0 degrees fahrenheit. Is this coat warm enough for that sort of climate?”
Asked on 12/1/2011 12:00:00 AM by Ben from Fargo, ND
    • Answer Most manufacturers do not have temperature ratings for their garments due to the number of factors that affect how warm a garment may keep you. This item is designed to be used as a layering piece. The following buying guides may offer some insight to help you dress properly for any environment. I can make a recommendation however, a down coat with a fill power of 700 to 800 will keep you plenty warm.
