The MMT from Montrail is a beast! It's my go to shoe for the overly technical training runs and races. This is my 5th pair over the last few years. What a value! If you want a solid shoe that eats up the rough trails this is the shoe.

Been looking for a replacement for my Salomon XA pro 3D ultra's, they are just 1.5 yrs old but due to frequent use the treads are running bare. After doing online research i narrowed my search to the Montrail Mountain Masochist. Convinced by the rave reviews online i decided to give it a try.

The Mountain Masochist has a more pronounced arch then the Salomon XA pro's, They also feel much much lighter. Almost effortless to walk with.
Been wearing them only for about 6 times. 3 of which were spent on the trail where i do my 1hour hikes.
The threads are good, they give you a sure grip on inch deep mud. They also seem to not hold mud in-between, which means easier cleaning afterwards!
Fit wise, they are a bit snug. As i came from using Salomon XA pro 3D ultra in a US11.5, i bought a pair of Montrail Mountain Masochist in similar size. I should have sized up. Size US12 or US13 if i intend to wear very thick socks with! Too late! I have to wear liner thin socks with these.
Unlike the Salomon XA's, these do not have the fancy kevlar quick laces. They're more traditional. It took me a few trial and error to dial the right tension. The laces do not come undone easily. Which is good.
Cushioning is good. They seem to "launch" my feet quickly while striding. They also seem stable.
Lets see how long these last!

A little stiff but for a trail shoe I am sure that is the reason. Good arch support, good fit,

This is my 5th order for Mountain Masochist. So far they've worked well and lasted about 4 months with at least 300 miles per month on mixture of paved roads and trails. Shoe was adequate for JMT in the Sierras. The tread glue started to come apart on the lateral edges on the last 2 pairs I owned, but the shoes were due to be changed at that point anyway. So it probably due to wear and tear. True to size. Good stability shoe.

I liked these so much bought 3 pair. Great support and stability with a wide toe box. These shoes work well on a variety of surfaces and terrains, I've been running exclusively in these shoes for over a year with no problems.

Happy with the purchase. Fit is good maybe just a bit tight. They appear to be well constructed. Relatively comfortable, just a bit tight over the arch.

I give trail shoes a good workout; from concrete streets to serious off-road work. I wore out a pair of Vasques and thought I'd try Montrail. These fit great and do breathe very well. I had them on in the rain and they worked great - stayed tied perfectly and had excellent traction. They dried fine for use the next day. Hiking in the New River Gorge was a delight; and walking through the Air Force Museum was just as nice.

I wasn't sure how I'd like the softer gel soles, but so far they are fine.

Great fit and a good deal.

    STP's service was typically excellent.
