I have hiked over 50 miles in the two weeks I have been using these shoes. They have good support but I wouldn't say excellent. They are a little wider than average which is great if you sometimes wear two pair of socks, which I do on long jaunts. I walk on paved and dirt trails. These shoes are great on both. I'm happy with these shoes but I don't think I's buy a second pair.

I've been doing sections of the Pacific Crest Trail for several years now, and these are my favorite trail shoes so far. I use a custom orthotic in them and they're very comfortable. I like the wide toe box. Can't say whether the fit is "normal" or not since I deliberately buy them a size too big. I did have to get off the trail after 400 miles in these a couple years ago due to incapacitating plantar fasciitis in one foot, but that started after I picked up a heavy food resupply and I blamed it on the weight rather than the shoes. Haven't been out long enough since (due to another injury) to know if the new orthotics will prevent the fasciitis, but don't have a problem with it now. I like these so well, and hate shopping so much, that I was thrilled to find them available here on close-out and bought multiple pairs. I do wish they had a grippier sole, but choose to accept what they have rather than going shopping for something else. I did make the mistake of getting some Montrail Mountain Masochist shoes assuming they'd fit the same, but had to return them because they were WAY too narrow for my feet.

I always loved Hard Rocks by Montrail, so when they stopped making them I figured that I would try this shoe. I really like it so far!

The shoe is comfortable but occasionally squeaks. Great traction!
