I use these boots for some everyday wear as well as hiking on weekends. The best part is that they required no break-in period and are very comfortable, but the first pair started to come unglued on the toe. I exchanged them for a new pair but unfortunately they started to do the same thing after just a few days. I am going to try to glue them myself because they still seem to be a good value.

Bought a pair of these for my wife who prefers light hiking boots. She hiked in them twice before the sole/rand began separating from the softshell. Called Montrail and they admitted they'd had a lot of trouble with the rand/shell bond on this model. Montrail exchanged these (no problem) for a pair of the new Cirrus GTX and they're great. She says they're one of the best she's worn, they're just as light and feature the same kind of softshell exterior. They're also as sturdy as the Stratos (which was one of their major selling points) and the sole/rand has stayed bonded to the shell. The only difference is that Montrail's new line of women's boots don't feature GTX XCR. The new Hardrock boot is designed in the same vein. The softshell boot is a great idea and Montrail usually makes quality products- the Stratos didn't work, but their modifications have greatly improved the quality of their new product line. Anyway, if you're looking for a softshell boot don't buy the Stratos and get the Cirrus or the Hardrock instead!

I was excited when I first put on these shoes. The shoes felt great - very light and as comfy as a sneaker. Calling these shoes boots is a bit of a stretch, they are just really glorified trail runners. These shoes are suitable for hikes that are dry (they leak), not too long (the sole is very flexible), not too steep (or your toes will jam into the front) and not too rocky (they provide modest ankle support) - overall walking on easy to moderate trails without a pack. The gortex began to pull away from the sole after about a week of light use and now my feet get wet with the slightest dew on the grass. There is a reason this product is discontinued.

I am a dog walker and I hike everyday! These shoes didn't hold up to one month of wet weather in california. Bummer!

These are the first hiking shoe or boot I have bought in recent memory that did not give me blisters!!! Also I did not have to use an additional insole to take up space for my low volume feet. These are great for narrow narrow feet like mine. Most athletic shoes are meant for wide feet. Before these I have never had a pair of hiking boots fit comfortably out of the box. Also it is very nice to have Gore-tex for puddles and rain protection.

This boot required no break-in time-took them out of the box and went on a 3 hour snowshoe trek with 50cm of new powder and still coming down. My feet were warm, dry and comfortable-no blisters. Too soon to comment on durability.

These are high quality, well put together boots. They are comfortable like trail running shoes but have very stable and comfortable ankle support. They're going to be great for snowshoeing and winter hiking. Durability is TBD...I have several other Montrails, and I've had mixed results on durability. But Montrail stands by their products and their warranty service is great.
