Bottom Line:

“I had used Montrails (trailrunners) on my Appalachian Trail hike, before they were bought out by Columbia. [...] Since then, I don't know if the company has become better; but I went back to Montrails, and the Torre boots in particular, because they fit me so well. I don't blister with a new pair, and these boots last quite a while (about 800-1100 miles a pair). The Vibram sole gives good traction, the boot is stable, and they gave me the ankle support I needed after a nasty series of sprains while on the John Muir section of the Pacific Crest Trail. For lightweight, dry hiking, trailrunners work well. For everything else - wet weather, snow, long carries, and the like, these boots are what I use.”
