I settled on the Agama for everyday tossing around, airline travel and a bag to accommodate some pre packed items (survival kit, 1st aid, etc..) because of the Agama's practical shape, multiple compartments, color selection and healthy 2000 cu. in. capacity, as well as Mountain Hardware quality.

With an odd horizontally-flexible suspension and a functionless 1" hyper-thin waist strap the Agama holds more than it supports, but the shoulder straps are nice. This isn't a 'supportive' pack for activities. ..demonstrated further by laptop pouch, no hydration.

Another let-down - the front 'divided' pocket is too small to fit more than small, loose essentials - no room for a 5" x 6" cube (1st aid kit) so most item will go into the large main compartment.

I own more supportive bags for hiking and higher performance bags for mountaineering. I have military-strength bags for field items and now I have a nice brightly colored Mountain Hardware backpack for everyday items; when traveling to a friends' in the city or hoping on a flight. I am pleased with the purchase and hope it serves as well as my perfectly good 25 year old Gregory 1.5 day pack. This is a pricey book bag but I like it. (especially in red.)

I know I said Near perfect, but thats only a gripe because I'm a large man and the waist straps are too small. seems to be a common issue among Mountain Hardwears belts and backpacks. Apart from that, I've been using this daily for about a week now and its possibly the most comfortable backpack I've used in a few years. The shoulderstraps are well padded and the firm air panel on the back conforms quite nicely to the shape of your back. There is a TON of cargo space in t his bag. Seriously, I thought I carried quite a bit, and it turns out I don't. I have my 14" laptop in there and the bag swallows it whole, plus the power supply and the wireless mouse. If you're a student or buying for a student, this would be the bag. THe material is weird, but so far seems very tough. The zipper pulls! I'm in love with them. The main compartment gets these neat aluminum pulls that make it really easy to open and lets you know which one is meant for the main compartment. The secondary compartment gets little plastic pulls, not quite as nice but still very easy to use.

Bought this as a present for my husband. He commutes on the train to the city everyday and finding a big enough bag to fit his shoes, lunch, work and laptop without messing up his back was a challenge... Then I found this bag. Super light and good looking, and large enough to fit every thing and more!

Bought this as a present for my Mom to replace her old North Face that was falling apart. She uses it to carry everything from books to groceries while bike commuting and loves it. The green color is a bit bright, but it matches her Mountain Hardware jacket so she is stoked. Great price and great product.

I bought this product with intention to use during day trips. I recently used it for the first time and was able to carry 8 water bottles, snacks for 4 and 4 light jackets, yet still having room for more. I also felt that this pack carried the weight very well. It felt as though there was hardly anything on my back.

  • Question “What torso size is this recommended for? I'm 5' 2" and wonder if it would be too big?

Asked on 2/2/2014 12:44:19 AM by Wasatch hiker from Utah
    • Answer I honestly don't know. However I'm 5'9" and it's at the max length of the shoulder straps. I am pretty broad shoulders as well. A smaller bad may be in order. Check I the mountain hardwear canmore bag.
Answered on 2/2/2014 12:00:37 PM by Julio from Maryland
    • Answer It depends what your intended use is. I'm 5' 9" - it works well for me as a large day pack for hiking and general everyday use around town. Purely as a day pack it might be a bit too large for someone your size, but it really depends how much space you want/need.

Please let me know if you have any other questions. I do really love it overall. It seems to holding up really well. :-)
