Christmas morning my sons invited me to climb the Grand Teton with them. This sets the bar pretty high for me because my next birthday I will be 70 and I haven't slept on the ground in 35 years. I have embarked on a fitness program and a search for the lightest gear to support me on two nights of camping at 12,000 feet. As soon as I got the Ethereal bivy, I slept in it on a 20F night with 4" of snow fall overnight. I discovered that my very, very old thermarest was too narrow for me at 20". I have ordered a new one that is 25" wide and will resume testing. My first night in the bivy was acceptable. I was warm except for where my arms touched the ground off the sleeping pad. There was some condensation on the inside of the bivy but not objectionable. As of now, I am of the opinion that this is essential for hikes of 6-10 hours whereby weather or accident may keep you out overnight.

Since I am yet to use this, I am unable to comment on the performance of this bivy. The set-up is easy and the poles give some space around the head area. Construction seems good but I am worried about whether there will be a lot of condesation and how breathable the fabric will be.

I haven't used it yet, but trust the maker and they're products. Small and light and will take hiking and fishing for emergency shelter. Great for minimal backpacking. What a great price from Sierra.

Not cold enough yet to get the full benefits of this bivy, but one day it will be. So far it's great with a quick set up and take down. No problems with excessive condensation, sticky zuppers, or pushy poles which go where they are not wanted. Loads well in the pack, bike, or clipped on front of a fastpack harness for overnight trail runs at higher elevations.
