Mountain Hardwear Freeride Ski Pants - Waterproof, Insulated (For Women)

I bought these pants after reading reviews of running large. I am no longer the 120 lbs. I used to be and am up to 140. I have always been a size 8 and thought a 12 should fit. Boy was I wrong. I could barely get them over my thighs and no way were they going to close. I take a size 10 pants now in jeans. I may have gained weight but certainly don't "come off" as fat. I would not recommend them to an adult woman's body unless really toned up.

The waistband on these pants is really big; probably an extra 2-3 inches of space. I am a 'normal' size 14. If one holds their weight in the belly area, these might work. The rest of the pant seems to fit - the legs allow for muscular thighs and movement. However, there is no adjustable waistband like many other brands have with the velcro/elastic adjustments. These do have belt loops but they look like an after thought as they are pretty wimpy looking - thin and narrow and just sewn on to the exterior of the waistband. There are no side leg vents which is a drawback for me. The front pockets are rather shallow - my hand fits into them only to the knuckles. The rear pockets are a bit deeper. Then there is the useless pocket on the leftside hemline.... The pants seem very lightweight; no idea how warm they would be. I find that Mountain Hardware sizing is inconsistent with many of their products, which is disappointing because the quality is generally good. I am sending these back.

These are a great pair of ski pants, however the down side is that they are very very generous around the waste and thigh. My advice is order a size down as the sizing chart on the website does not accurately reflect the sizing of each product.

I find most Mountain Hardwear products are very durable, made with an attention to detail, comfort and performance. These pants are no exception. The built-in gaiters fit nicely over my ski boots. The pockets are well placed and do not add bulk, although I am not sure what I would put in the pocket at the bottom of the leg!

I loved these pants. However, I usually wear a larger-than-normal size in MH products, so I ordered the medium (8-10), which should've been perfect as I am a size 6 and usually cannot wear a size 6 in MH. Yet, these pants seemed very large for size. The small size was for size 4-6 (what happened to 6-8?). Thus, I opted not to exchange them for fear that size would be too small. Sorry that I couldn't get these in a size to fit!

Okay, so I live in Florida and don't know jack about snow. I just wanted a comfortable warm pair of pants.These are awesome - they are not your mom's jeans! They sit right above your hip bones - how wonderful is that!!. The lining is soft and comfy- it does shed however. I normally wear a large size 12 or a small 14. I got both pairs and the 14 had to go back - I was swimming in them. The 12's were even a little slack - but I don't like tight clothes so they were perfect. I am 5'9 and weight in at 157 (just for your reference) The front hip pockets are a little on the small side, maybe only 2- 3 inches deep - can't put much besides maybe a credit card and a key in there. There is a small pocket down in the front about 5 inches up from your ankle - not sure what to do with that. They also have an inside gathered liner type thing down around the boot area on the inside. Gaiter??? Like I said, Florida gal - not sure what to do with that, but the pants are still awesome. Just field tested them in the rockies this past week, sat in whatever i wanted and butt stayed dry, kept me toasty in the cold mornings. Definitely a keeper. [...]

The quality of the pants was very good, but they were just way too big all over. I am almost a size eight (probably a nine) but the large (8-10) was way too big and the pants actually fell down as I was running across the street. Even with pants underneath the snow pants, they'd be too big everywhere.

I am an extremely small person and typically when I order an extra small, they are still too big. Not these snowpants! They are very comfortable and fit perfectly. I was getting tired of always being cold, living in MT, now I can have a good time outside and not worry about being cold. A great buy!

Too short in the rise, unless you like that low on the hips blue jean look....

I just got these 2 weeks ago and I love them. I am 5 10 and normally wear a size 12. Finaly I found ski pants that are long enough!!! I wanted to be able to fit a layer underneath and was concerned that the large being a 10-12 would not fit so I ordered an XL(14) which is a bit big. I think the L would have fit just fine. Unfortunatly they do not have L anymore so I am keeping the XL because I really like them.
