5.0 out of 5 stars. Answer to my dreams?

I love to backpack/camp in the icey cold, grey, snowy/damp Ohio winters. Last winter I wore wool undershirt, goose down puff coat and winter-rain coat, but was still cold around the fire to the point that I only wanted to get in my bag. So I've been looking for an ultralight, goose down, water repellent vest to keep my core warmer underneath my other layers. I've done a lot of research and although Arcteryx has a great goose down vest, the fit was terrible on me. I've been eyeing the MH vest for awhile, especially because it's only 50 fill less than the Arcteryx vest and I believe that it's lighter weight. Every ounce counts on the trail. The MH vest was way too expensive for me to swallow, so when it went on sale at STP, I jumped for joy. In general, I do not like bright colors at all and I do not like shiny material; however, given the quality of this vest and the price, I was willing to overlook the shiny look of the grey and the hot pink trim. It is August so I won't be camping in this for a few months, but I am confident that I made the right choice over anything else on the market, especially for the amazing price. For sizing, I'm 5'7" have a 36B chest, abnormally long torso and skinny arms and shoulders--the Small is absolutely perfect--long enough to cover my hips/waist and enough chest/shoulder room to pick up twigs/firewood off the ground without popping a seam (I practice picking things up off the ground in my bedroom when I get new camping clothes to simulate gathering firewood). Very thin, very lightweight, and started to warm me up quickly in my airconditioned apartment. Hopefully I'll be warm and toasty around the campfire this year :-)

  • 3.0 out of 5 stars. Great except the zipper

The fabric, weight and overall construction and fit is great. I sent the vest I ordered back; however, because of the zipper. I had to force it to match at the bottom in order to zip it up or take it off. I felt like this would cause the zipper to break sooner than normal.
  • 5.0 out of 5 stars. Very light, warm

This will be excellent for backpacking. It weighs nearly nothing (I think it was about 150 g). The trim color was a lot pinker than I thought it would be, but that may be a plus for some people.
  • 3.0 out of 5 stars. Nice vest

Nice vest, though I agree it is a little shiny and Judy Jetson-like. I liked the light fill and packability, but the zipper seemed flimsy and likely to fail. I didn't keep it.

Wasn't sure I'd use a vest much but I now put it on most every day. Super light and comfy. Gives just that bit more of warmth when I don't need a full jacket which is quite often. Stuffs quite small. Fit true to size.
