This jacket fits me very well. I’m 5/10 with a stocky build. The large has just enough room for a full fleece and a fleece vest under layer. Without the insulation layers it is not bulky. I have to rate the fit for me as perfect. I will be skiing in all weather conditions next season and will rate the DryQ Elite this time next year. All of my previous water proof breathable jackets outer layers soaked up water after 50+ day ski seasons in the mid Sierras. I wash and maintain to the manufacturers recommendations. So far I am very happy with one mixed snow and rain day.

All in all very happy with the jacket. I have worn it in snow and extreme sub-zero weather and have had no problems. Have not worn it in rainy or mixed precip. weather yet. I got a 2x so that I would have no problem with any layering combination underneath and that seems to be a good choice. I am 6'3" and like my clothing a little loose. Front zipper seams to catch sometimes when zipping up but not a big deal right now.

great shell. M fits perfectly (i'm 5'8" 175), with the exception that the monkey thumbs are just a tad short and pull on my hands when i extend my arms. its amazingly waterproof and windproof and has a nice removable powder skirt in case you want to use it for some epic hiking treks in wet summer weather. glad i made the purchase!

I like almost everything about this jacket, but it's not quite perfect. It's light, breathes really well, and sheds wet snow exceptionally well. The pit zips are great, the powder skirt is awesome, and it fits much more snugly in the torso than the same size MH "Snowtastic" jacket. I tried the Large in both jackets, and I could easily add a full-sized bed pillow in the Snowtastic and zip it closed. The Girdwood is a much more athletic fit; great sleeve length and enough movement in the shoulders for backcountry skinning/skiing. The only negative I could really find on this jacket is that there is not one single exterior pocket that is placed to be useful while wearing a pack. A waistbelt goes right over both lower pockets, and a chest strap goes right over the lone upper pocket. It's not a deal-breaker for me, but it is a curious design flaw coming from Mountain Hardwear. The breathability, water resistance, and overall fit far outweigh the minor nuisance of not being able to use pockets on the jacket. I keep my stuff in my pack anyway.

I'm 6'3",ordered the XXLG jacket, fits a little loose, sleeves a little long, but that is better than a tight jacket with short sleeves when doing outdoor activities. Love the jacket

I just received the jacket, so haven't had a chance to see how it performs yet (although I am confident it will perform as advertised). I plan to use it as a skiing/snowboarding shell, my winter jacket around town, and a waterproof hiking jacket all seasons (which is why I bought the lightest weight one). I am writing about the fit because I read a lot of reviews on Mountain Hardwear's Dry.Q Elite jackets saying that the fit was not right. This Girdwood jacket does not have that problem, the fit is good. I ordered a medium. I am 6'1" and about 175 pounds, size 32/34 pants, and wear a 38 or 40 jacket. The medium fits very well. The arms are the right length, including the thumb-holed powder cuffs at the wrist. The length of the jacket is also correct, and it is not too big around the midsection. I tried it on with an undershirt, and a thicker second layer, and still didn't feel jammed in the jacket. I think I could fit a third if need be, on a really cold (below 0) ski day. The hood is large to accomodate a helment, but if you adjust it down it should work without a helment. I would also comment that the material feels very nice. I have never owned a premium jacket, like Gore-Tex, before. So while this is not a true soft shell--you still get some of the rasping/crinkling feeling of a hard-shell--it feels very comfortable and seems to move nicely.

I love this jacket! I tried it out for the first time yesterday, and we had variable conditions all day. Started out nicely cool for skiing, probably just below 40 degrees. I wore this jacket on top of my Patagonia Capilene 3 base layer (one of the best base layers I have ever worn), and a fairly heavyweight fleece pullover. Almost immediately I became warm, but noticed that the jacket seemed to regulate my temperature. Never started sweating. Later in the day, it got quite cold, probably mid 20's, breezy, and light snow. Jacket held up like a champ, and kept me ok, though I probably could have used one more layer at that point. If it got much colder, I could have used my MH Thermostatic jacket underneath and been fine. Much warmer, and probably just the base layer followed by this shell and I would have been perfect! Features I like: -Lightweight. My ski partner said I looked much slimmer and light with this jacket. My old jacket was so bulky and heavy. This jacket, paired with the proper layers, gives me so much more freedom of movement while still keeping me comfortable in most weather conditions. -Warmth. For a light shell, this jacket with the proper base layer kept me mostly warm even when it was pretty cold and snowing. I could have easily put on another layer, or even another jacket underneath and still had room. -Fit. I see so many reviews dinging MH for the small fit. I did not experience that at all. As stated above, I have the MH Thermostatic jacket, which is not a form fitting jacket by any stretch, but it still easily fit under this jacket, along with a base layer. I'm 5'9", about 160 lb and have a muscular build, and it easily fit around my shoulders and arms, with full movement. -Ski-specific. When fully zipped up, the collar is tall, but big, which is nice when wearing a helmet and neck gaiter. My old jacket pretty much choked me due to it's small size, and prevented a lot of neck movement. MH built this jacket with a large collar, perfect when skiing. Also, the hood is just the right size for a helmet. It was very easy to pull up over my helmet, and with the zippers all the way up, the hood stays on without contstricting movement too much. But even without a helmet, there are cinch cords which allow it to comfortably fit my head without falling into my eyes. I also like the shape of the pockets. The seem to come to a point facing downward, so even if you forget to zip up a pocket, stuff does not fall out. My old jacket had square pockets and I'd constantly be losing a chapstick or small water bottle out of my pocket when I'd leave the pocket open. Everything seems to fall to the bottom of the pockets in this jacket. There is virtually nothing I dislike about this jacket. My only small complaints are about the inner cuff. When I put my thumbs through it, it's hard to fully extend my arms without really tugging on the jacket. Maybe 1/2" longer would have been perfect. Also the powder skirt rides up after taking a run, but I'm not sure how that could be addressed (maybe a belt loop hook?). The skirt is a bit tight on my frame too, so anyone with a larger hip/waist area may find it even more constricting. Lastly, the jacket can be hard to fully zip up with one hand. The waterproof zips are normally a bit harder to zip up, but this one is even more difficult. Maybe it was my helmet strap and neck gaiter getting in the way though... Overall, I feel like I finally found an awesome jacket that's perfect for almost all ski conditions. Like I needed another excuse to get out there, but this jacket gives me one!
