The size and weight are minimal. Easy to set up; More interior room then expected. This will be great on the banks of a river. It will be well used this summer.

As with most reviews I've read about this tent, the weight is the only really "con," but even at that it's still a very minimal "con." I knew buying it that it would be a little bit bulky, and we were okay with that. You won't find an easier tent to set up. It's easy in the dark, with little to no help. The room is perfect for 2 adults around 6' tall. I think a third might be a little cramped, unless the three people were pretty slim. For the price, especially, I don't think there's a better tent out there, for my money.

Love the tent. It's so easy to set up my 9 year old did 1/2 the work. The left & right side access doors are great. The little details were designed very well. Plenty of head room. Great for my 2 sons and I.

Since it is the middle of winter, we have not used the tent outside (it set up quickly inside, though, and is of quality lightweight build) so cannot speak as to its ability to withstand winds or rain out in the elements. However, based on our personal knowledge and experience with similar tents over the past 50 years, this one should do very nicely. Nonetheless, I will seal the floor seams as I have done with all my tents before first use, and will use the matching footprint and rectangular gear loft with it. Bottom line: I like this tent, it was very easy to set up, and should do well for the three of us this summer.

  • Question “Do I need to put a tarp down below this tent or not? If so, what kind? Size? Etc.?||Thanks!”
Asked on 2/12/2012 12:00:00 AM by Anonymous from Charleston, SC
    • Answer If you are backpacking, use at least the factory "footprint" with it. I ALWAYS use some kind of tarp or footprint under my tents to prevent premature wearout or puncture of the floor. This is a lightweight tent and as with all light tents, the floor is very thin.
Answered on 2/20/2012 12:00:00 AM by hgernhardtjr from Parkersburg, WV
    • Answer A tarp is not needed , but if you would like one here are the floor dimensions,|91x84-½", 46 sq.ft. Have a great day.
Answered on 2/20/2012 12:00:00 AM by Prod. Spec. Ryan from Sierra Trading Post
    • Answer I would definitely advise getting the footprint. The manufacturer's site is http://www.mountainhardwear.com/Hammerhead%E2%84%A2-3-Footprint-PL/OU3104,default,pd.html - but I'm sure you can find it for a better price at a site like Sierra Trading Post, or similar. If not, a tarp would work if money is an issue. Hope this helps!

    • Answer Fly - YES||Footprint - always use something for a groundsheet, does not need to be the exact model specific footprint. I like generic rectangle ones due to there functionality/multi-use capabilities.
