Most Helpful 5-Star Review
Reviewed by Steve Wainwright from Seattle on Monday, October 7, 2013So far, I've only set up this tent in my basement, just to make sure I can do so when and if the Northwest weather improves. I purchased this model for two reasons: (1) I've had great luck with Mountain Hardwear products for years, and (2) I have had their 3-person tent for three years with no quality issues whatsoever.
This tent is very well made and pretty simple to set up, as the poles are attached to a plastic hub at the center. The hub clips to the top center of the tent. Very intuitive design. The only drawback I've found with the preattached pole arrangement occurs when you try to set up the tent in a brushy, close-quarters site. You have to make sure the pole ends don't get caught in branches or bushes.
Once the tent is up, I've found the 3-person to be reliably dry and protective. As with most tents, the rated capacity -- 2-person, 3-person, etc. -- is either wishful thinking or designed for people 5 feet 8 and 125 pounds.
Reviewed by G&T McD from Upstate NY on Tuesday, September 17, 2013We wanted a tent that would fit on the custom made platform for our sailboat, as it has no cabin of its own. This tent fit perfectly! We are able to put it up while on the boat and do not have to step into the "water" at all. The fact that it is self standing and so quick to erect is definitely a plus. It literally took me only 10 minutes or so without directions, the very first time, and now takes me like five. We have not been able to sleep out all night in it as of yet, but the reviews all say it is very waterproof and it also comes with a footprint, which many of the others do not. My husband and I are both close to 200 pounds each so we wanted the biggest tent we could find that would fit our Alps mountaineering double sleeping pads and us quite comfortable. We will not be stowing much gear in the tent, but it does have several pockets to keep all kinds of stuff if needed, and the large vestibule will keep our porta potty area private from peeping eyes. We had 4 tents on our original list, and this one won out as having the most of everything we were looking for our home away from home. I don't think you will be disappointed! Plus Sierra Trading Post offered a 30% savings over their already reasonable price, making our purchase for this tent through them a sure thing, over the two other online websites that also sold the same one.
Reviewed by MT outdoors girl from Montana on Sunday, July 14, 2013I purchased this tent to use when camping with my dog, a 70 lb English Setter. The tent is very solid in construction, much more so than my Marmot Titan 3, which I have also used this summer. Everything about this tent feels more durable: zippers, mesh, fly, vestibule, etc. I like the layout with the door on the front end of the tent for one person. The loft inside is really neat, and in a perfect location. This tent feels like I am in my own little "hut" away from home. The inside of the fly accumulates a small amount of dew during the night, but none of the water makes it into the tent itself, which is wonderful (unlike an older tent that I have). I had the "opportunity" recently to use the fly and footprint alone as my dog and I got caught in a deluge, which lasted nearly 2 hours and included three bouts of hefty hail. The dog and I sat it out just fine, and it was nice to be able to look out through the small window to see what was happening.
In addition to the great workmanship, I also think it is aesthetically pleasing and I love the color!
