Like others have said, this is a heavier material with a solid built in bra. I was surprised how tight fitting it was through the center/stomach, but it flares at the hips and doesn't have the cling through the 'love handles'. It lies right above my knees and the red/corral color is really pretty. I'm excited to have this dress as everyday wear for summer.

I really wanted a dress that I could look cute in while still being comfortable for travel, and hiking this summer. I am very happy with how this dress fits and the comfort level of the fabric. I'm 6'0, 160 lbs and the medium size is a great length and size. I'm very happy with my purchase.

It has a little keyhole opening in the back. The pocket is tiny, but it's a pocket and that's nice to have. I give it a four instead of a 5 because the zipper and pocket are sewn a little sloppy, but I can fix that. I wouldn't wear this for a night out, it's definitely got that outdoorsy-look. The fabric is not quite black, looks like it's been washed - which is OK for day, but it's not an evening dress.

Reviewed by em from Boston, MA on Friday, February 22, 2013I'm a huge fan of travel dresses, my favorites being the Prana Quinn dress and Patagonia Morning Glory. I love fabrics that can get stuffed in a backpack and shaken out and worn while traveling, and multifunctional styles that can go from beach to hike to party without worry. I know this is a tall order, but a lot of the sporting goods companies have pulled it off. That said, the Loess dress was not even close for me, not the quality or fabric or style or fit. I wanted it to be, since some of the colors are cute and I like the pictures, but it really fell short. First, the color - I got the black, but it looked like a black dress that had been washed until the dye bleached out, or like it had faded in the sun. It's like a faded t-shirt black, or an ashy black. You may like that - I didn't, since it made the dress look old. Next was the fit: I'm 5'4" and 120 lbs, a small 6 with an athletic build, 34B. The lengthe was perfect, but the bust/under arms was just gaping (I estimate maybe an extra 3 inches? of fabric) while the waist and top of hips were strangely snug. The one side pocket on the dress stuck out like a lump on my hip and no matter what I did to it, it wouldn't stop bulging. When unzipped, I could fit only the top half of my hand in though so it wasn't very useful. I can't imagine actually carrying something around in there, since the fit was meant to be form fitting in that area. The back was also weird -it has the keyhole, but then it also has two unattached straps criss crossing. That would have been fine, but they should have been tightening up the bust area and weren't. Just an odd, odd fit. And the fabric is very thick and heavy, not technical material or moisture wicking - I wouldn't want this dress for summer because it's quite heavy, but then it's also sleeveless so I don't know when you'd wear it. Over all, I wasn't impressed with it. I'd give it thinner, more flattering fabric, I'd change the fit (I see I'm not the only reviewer with loads of extra material under the arms) and the black would either be a true black or a heathered grey/black - not the faded out ash black of an old tshirt. On the positive side I liked the length, I like the idea of a pocket (if not the execution) and the relatively high neck.

Reviewed by Cate from Penfield, NY on Friday, January 25, 2013Based on other reviews saying it runs on the small side, I erred on the larger size. The MED was way to big for my 5'8 118 lb frame. Gaping under the arms, very loose through the torso & waist. It is also a heavier, stiffer fabric than I expected (in Black). I'm used to so many of the super soft new technical fabrics. Lastly, very flared A-line style on the skirt part, moreso than it looks in the picture.
